I have always liked Planet Audio, and I don't believe they are TOO expensive, however, I have been out of the car audio game for a bit so I am not totally sure.

I am like you I have not had any amps in a long while. The last ones I had were JBL and that was so long ago I dont even want to think about it.

kenwood amps are good for cheap general amplification. back in the day i got a 600w for 150, im sure you can get a couple 50-100 watters for cheap, more than enough to drive some mids or component sets. alpine amps are very good when coupled with alpine components. i think as far as musical clarity, alpine and pioneer are still the best in terms of single unit speakers(co/tri/quad-axial), eclipse units sound great also. as far as component sets, Infinity, Kicker, and Audiobahn(yes teh a-bahn) all make super crisp sounding component sets. also, if you can find one amp that can do the same as 2, go for it. as many cars as ive hooked up, id rather have to only hook up one amp, instead of two. for two amps, even if theyre low wattage, youre still going to want to run no less than 4g to the distribution block, then maybe 8g to each amp, then 4g grounds off each, both using a different ground point(grounding both causes feedback). and dont buy the amp wiring kits from a store, they charge like 100 bucks for a 4g kit, fuck that. you cna get 4g kits off ebay for 30 bucks shipped, hell if you have the fuse holder already, you can pick up all the 4g wire you need from home depot for 50c a foot i believe, and a set of cable terminators from autozone for 3 bucks.

NO SONY. I have had to many people say that they had to many problems. Sony which was good stuff in the 80's and early 90's was OK but they lost it. When I was in High School Jensen was good and now they are cheap just like Sony.
Here is what I have found as good priced mid fi equipment. Oh I decided to go with a 4 channel amp
Alpine
Infinity JBL same company Harmon same technology
Pioneer
Kenwood
Eclipse

That is good. Some people dont or they would not be in business. The problem with almost everything Sony except TV's they have a poor frequence of repair record.

With the Alpine CD deck and the infinity speaker I all ready purchased. I am leaning more to Alpine or JBL/Infinity

I have a 4 year old Sony Xplod amp thats still working just as fine as the day I got it.
My Sony cd player on the other hand...bad choice. Sometimes I will hit Volume Up or Down and my ATT will come on. Ill go to change a song and my eq settings go nuts.
Some sony stuff I have owned and it worked great but other shit was junk.
