My PC is acting dumb

I uninstalled my first virus scanner because it wasn't doing a very good job. I downloaded a free one from Panda software.com but I was getting pretty annoyed by it's firewall constantly blocking my programs. So I uninstalled it and reinstalled my other virus scanner.

After that, I restarted the PC and now Firefox no longer works. I double click on it, the window opens and then closes immediately.

I can still use Explorer though, but who wants to use that.

I'm going to reformat, it's been 2 years since I got this computer and I haven't reformatted yet. I think I'm over due.

I just have to buy blank CD's or guy an external hard drive.. GROAN.... the one thing I HATE about doing this is having to back up all my crap which normally takes 2 days of off and on work.

You need another PC on your network. Makes backups so much easier.

Why not do a re-install of Firefox, it might save you alot of time in the process...

Or try doing a recent restore point if you are using WinXP, and then go from there and trouble shoot it that way...

I am not one to give up on problems of bloatdows! I always like to the why, before the know!

I'm a big believer in regular re-installs of Windows. Doesn't happen nearly as often since I started XP (and even less often now, than when XP first came out) but I still do it from time to time. Having extra machines here at the house to back-up to helps speed up the process.

Well good news, PC acted fine after I redid some stuff. Reformatting can wait another day.

Sorry I didn't respond to this thread. I just finished standing up my Domain after building a 2003 server.
