I've seem some stuff about these kits not being street legal. Are they? I'm talking about the $36 with shipping kits, not the K&N ones. I don't want to put one that isn't street legal in my car, but it seems like they would get into trouble selling non-street-legal kits and not warning people. thanks

well in some states they make you have proof that it is street legal, like CA....
they are legal just a matter of having the paper that say so or the stamp on it that says DOT legal (as my saleen spoiler has)
the EBAY CAIs are poor quality anyway, check out MAC brand at www.rpm-mustangs.com ask him if they can give proof of being legal.

its not illegal but i wouldn't recommend it, especially if ur talking about the chrome intake...u really gotta take care of it too or ur gonna get marks all on it....its worth the extra few bucks to get the K&N or something else thats a little more reliable

Yea the chrome Ebay CAI suck. I had to have Corey take the "chrome" off of it and powdercoat it.
If you dont care what it looks like like I used to, then by all means. Otherwise spend the extra bucks and get a nice one.

if it doesnt have a DOT legal stamp or paper work... its not street legal as my understanding, not to say it cant be as it is... but it has not been "put though the process" to be made "legal"

It's probably expensive to get it certified, that is why most are not.
I know it costs $27,000 minimum just to get the EPA to test fuel
saving devices, and most of those do not pass the certification.
They can get an independant lab to test it to "EPA Specs" but that
is not EPA certification

There must be different laws in different states. In WA, as long as you pass emissions, it doesn't matter what you have stamped on anything under the hood. By the way, there are different e-bay sellers with different Cold Air Intake's out there. I must be one of the lucky ones that got one that fit, had all the parts, and has lasted for almost 2 years so far without any quality issues.

Every state is different to some degree. But what is constant is the ease of swapping the CAI for the stock one for inspections.
As far as chrome ebay CAI's just keep it clean and if you live in the salt zone I would clearcoat it or use ZOOP
