its not really that big of a deal, i just want to know if its normal for the tremec tranny.
after driving long distances or for a long time without shifting, going from 3rd to 4th, 4th gear gets really tight to get into. only 4th gear has this issue, every other gear is the same, but this one is really tight after a while. i noticed this with the stock long throw as well as the tri-ax shifter. then as i drive around after being on the freeway for a while, it starts to work itself out and then feels normal again after about 5 minutes and a few lights of shifts through 4th.

I cant really think of anything other than 4th being the 1:1 gear ratio... ive never had issues with 4th. If you shift RIGHT as you are getting on the clutch it will go in smoother (when the tranny is warm)
you might want to change your tranny fulid, 8 bucks + fluid pump (7 bucks) = fluid change.

yeah i might just get that done tomorrow. all my oil buckets are full, so i might just go to a 10 minute lube kinda place and have them do my oil and tranny fluid. any recommended additives like syncromesh or whatnot for the tranny?

just OEM fluid, poor it in (use the ford brand) and be done with it. They quoted me 90 bucks to remove two plugs, drain the fluid, put one plug in, put the 4 quarts of fluid in and put the fill plug back in... so I did it on my own in 20 minutes.

You sure you did it on your own???
Oh yeah, they say Syncromesh is the best stuff you can use, but it's quite expensive and probably isn't quite worth the money. Really any Dexron 3 ATF will work. I personally put Mobil 1 Synthetic in mine.

you need to check the composition of the tranny firest, some have paper/carbon fiber in them and what nots and different fluid can mess that stuff up, such as synthetic (some blends) vs regular. I would just run OEM and be done with it.

I'd change the fluid, then if it still does it I'd be worried about your 4th gear syncro

it may take a couple days for the fluid to really make a change in the car though, it did for mine.

k well after putting around400 miles on the change, issue now comes and goes. after the 6 hour trip, 4th gear felt fine like it should. but sometimes while i was taking a cruise down teh 101 it got tight, but as i had to do more stop and go it loosened up.
im with whip, could be a synchro. when i get home ill do another flush and add some synchromesh to the mix, if anything, itll prolong its death(if thats whats really wrong) till i can get a tl500 or something.

i would research to make sure the internals on your tranny wont be hurt by syncromesh, you never know.
