Alright, installed an autometer tach w/ shift light saturday... I need to know if anybody knows what color the tach wire is that i need to hook the GREEN wire into. I checked another forum and it said it was a TAN/YELLOW wire. I spliced into it and my tach didnt read an RPM... Everything else was hooked up right.. the only other problem im having is i hooked the white wire into my headlight switch (like it said) so that when i turned on my head lights or parkin lights the light on the tach would come on.... but it comes on whenever i turn the key over. Also, is the wire under the passenger kick panel???

i think you have to have a converter for some years, check and see if you need.

It sounds like you spliced the 12V light wire to an ignition wire, which could be the reason that the light is coming on when you turn the key over... I remember in my 98 and even in the 90 I have now, the headlight/parking light wire is a light brown/tan...

my friends shift light on his tach comes on when he cranks the car.

in my 99 the brown wire is the parking lights.

I thought that could be a possibility as well... I double checked my wires though. I have a water temp. and volt guages on my a-pillar... (autometer ultra-light) and the lights on those guages come on with my headlight/parking light, and they dim/brighten as well. So i just hooked the light wire into those wires. |

Ohh you guys are talking about the shift light.. I thought you we're just talking about the light in the tach itself.. oops.

ive always heard it was green/gray or something like that. I am not sure though.

its behind ur instrument panel its the harness on the left the tach wire is brown/yellow it should be the same as mine i have a 97 mustang gt |
