I've had an on going debate on a local forum here in kc... All of these camaro owners have been on my nuts cause i said the mach1 would give an ls1 a run for its money.. i believe its a drivers race and that they cars are basically equal.. a mach with drags can run a 12.9 equal to the ls1 ... whats your opinion?

hmm it would be close but i would prolly have to give the edge to the ls1 if both were stock it would very close however. I have watched a video of a 05 gt and 99 ss racing both stock and the ss beat it so u figure the mach is a little faster and has 3.55's so it would be close but having driven both i would say advantage ls1.

My '02 WS6 runs 8.6@84 in the 1/8th on a 2.0 60' (it was a .1 or two slower when it was bone stock). I haven't ever seen a Mach 1 at the track, so I don't have anything to compare it to.

The Mach I would win easily. The LS1 is just an engine, while the Mach I is an entire car.
Seriously though, it really depends on what kind of LS1 we're talking about as there were several different models w/ the LS1 motor. Even with a given model, it'll still come down to the drivers. Although a LS1 C5 Vette will have a little bit of an upper hand due to lower weight and aerodynamics at high speeds (if you were racing from a high mph roll this may actually matter).
Too many variables for me to vote on this one.

I think from a stop tthey would real close if you ran say a full 1/4 however from a roll i think the ls1 would get it. Those things are wicked even stock from a roll. Ben is rite however, even it being the diff between a z28 or a SS could be a deciding factor as the SS i believe is rated at about 15 or 20 more hp.Don't forget in 2002 you could get some kinda slp thing put on at the factory forgot it was on the intake o r soemthing I think they only put it on the camaros that got them to like 340 or somewhere.

machs run mid 13s which is about identical to ls1 camaros, depending on rear gear package.
