umm no kid.
the Prowler came out waaaaaay before the PT Loser.
Plus the redesigned Beetle that has been a utter godsend for VW, that hasnt changed its look in almost a decade and still they have trouble keeping them on lots.
after that, companies jumped on the bandwagon. we got the PT Cruiser, the Tbird to name a few. then the big guys started ripping off names of old classics with decent results, had the Charger, which is nothing like a old charger but still a pretty sick car, especially the SRT8 version. GM brought over the Monaro and badged it as a GTO and stuck it out there. Then the makers got even wiser, and went all out, making modern day look-alikes that closely resembled their retro counterparts. the 05 Mustangs were the first of the big 3, but are the farthest off. Chevy followed suit with the redesigned Camaro, which is more modern but still feels very retro. Finally dodge unveiled the Challenger, which is probably the closest of the three in terms of looking like its retro counterpart. Ford wasnt getting enough attention, so they took a SVT concept, stuck a Shelby emblem on it, and called it a GT500, and if that isnt retro enough, they made it to where the only people that could afford it, were those who have been saving their money since the GT500 first came out!

The prowler did not start the retro movement, kid. The prowler came way before the retro movement exploded. The PT Cruiser was the car that pushed it into high gear.

The PT Cruiser is a descendant of the Prowler. Had the Prowler never been created, the PT cruiser would not have either.

That is besides the point. The prowler did not cause the Retro movement to explode. The affordable PT Cruiser did.

yeah but i think the PT Cruiser wasnt it either, im sure the newly redesigned Beetle had more of a effect on bringing on the Retro craze than the Cruiser, but they both played a huge role bringing affordable retro to the masses.

The new Beetle definitely had a hand in it, but was quite bland in appearance in comparison to Chrysler's PT Cruiser and Prowler. The Beetle was remade in 1998, but other than the name and the heritage that goes along with with it, when I look at a new Beetle I honestly don't think "retro-style".
Chrysler fed off the public reaction for the Prowler, but like Brent mentions, the PT Cruiser was affordable to the masses and it's looks caused a massive stir in the auto world when it was launched in 2001 because there was finally something out there that didn't look like every other car on the road and reminded people of hot rod styling (which is funny because now it looks like every other car on the road).
