I was happy with my frpp shorty headers.. changed the tone of the car, and definitely helped top end.. (I'd say about 2 tenths and 1 MPH in the 1/4 mile) also had a diablosport handheld tune.. I know people say the off-the shelf tune is junk, but it definitely helped my car in the 1/4 mile..
best thing you could do.. 4.10 or 4.30 gears (I preferred 4.10 for my daily driver) and drag radials.. short throw shifter definitely helps as well

He's in cali, so he'd have to go with CARB approved shorties...which are hard to come by.

i believe the frpp shorties are carb approved, but not 100% sure
id get
4.1's(if you dont ever plan on going power adder)
plenum/tb combo
tuner(diablo/sct, then play with the settings to get a better-than-theirs tune)
shifter(trust me, it helps)
pullies help, ive yet to install mine though and i bought them the same time i got my car almost 6 months ago.

Don't waste your money on headers yet. They don't do a lot until you run a power adder. Especially the shorty headers. Long tubes are somewhat worth it but that will cause issues with emmissions for you.

i agree for the trouble headers are and believe me they are bad enough on a 5.0 i can imagine what a pain they would be on a 4.6 as crammed as it looks in an enginebay. The best thing you can do for the money besides n20 is gears. 4.10s and it will feel like a completely diff car. I rode in a guys 02 vert with 4.30's it was an auto though and it was pretty impressive. I just went from 3.08's to 3.73's on mine and the diff was amazing. Other than that i would do the exhaust and midpipe and maybe a intake plenum and cold air. Possibly pullies but not really heard how much those help mod motors.

headers were cake on the 4.6.. had to remove the drivers side engine mount bolt then jacked the engine up about 4 "
right in right out.. afaik the headers were carb approved and dyno tests showed a 7 HP gain..

we put a mac pulley on my 00 gt and i could tell a huge difference and i havent even got on it yet. The take off was the biggest difference i seen in mine so far but im going to wait about a week to really get on them hard before i really can tell at top end and ill update to again. But it was worth all 75 dollars i paid for them for sure

ok in my opinon u should sit down an put on paper what you want to put on the car ....i have an 03 mustang gt an i have wasted a lot of money.....ex, pullys(no need i am getting a s/c an it well efect the boost) cold air intake ( this was a wast cause that stuff comes in the s/c kit) so what i am tring to say is .. you need to save your money an ask around for ideas an see were they take you ......i am upset at my self cause i have spent over 800$$$$ for not even 20 hp gain the only thing that i did good on was the 100 shot of nitrous an the 3:73 gears....i hope this helped you save money an help you pick you route.
