98 V6 engine swap to 99 or later V6

Im contemplating on getting a 98 V6 stang. As I'm not exactly rolling in cash, and 150hp will do me fine, especially since I'll be learning stick on it, I doubt I'll be doing anything to the engine to increase hp for a while if I get it.
However, I know the power went up a good amount from the 98 V6 to the 99 and later V6. I'm curious at the costs of either upgrading the 98 v6 to the level of the 99, or swaping the 98 for the 99 V6. Which could be cheaper, easier, and/or more reliable?

What is keeping you from getting the 99 V6 Mustang to start with?
That would be a cheaper route. You will need to upgrade the fuel system to returnless if you buy the 98 and drop the 99 in.
You actually do not have to swap the whole engine as the Heads, intakes and cam will directly swap over but will need the fuel system from the 99

What's holding me back from getting the 99 or later are two factors:
1) Cash. 99 and later costs more (I'm not planning on doing anything performance wise for a while, so by that time I might have more money)
2) Style. I prefer the body style of the 94-98 to the 99-04.
I'm a dunce at car stuff, as I don't really have any experiance doing it. So if I say something dumb, forgive me.
So you're saying that a full swap wouldn't be needed, but rather swaping of engine parts?

Right the pistons and rods and crank are the same. You need to transfer the Heads, Intakes, and Cam along with the fuel system from the 99 V6 Engine.
There is smaller stuff that I can not recall of the top of my head, however those are the biggest components of the swap.

NO!!!!
I would have to say the difference in the cost between the 98 a 99 V6 now would be minimal. As a matter of fact with there being thousands out there you can shop around and find many 99's the same price.
For me it is about body style and I prefer the 98 styling. But to each his own. It would be cheaper just to get a 99 over buying a 98 and doing a upper end or complete engine swap

Ok, right on. So by doing those changes, I should boost by hp to the level of the 99 V6? And about how much would doing this cost?

More than buying a 99+
You will need the following parts BUT YOU WILL NOT NEED A 99+ CAM
-97+ f-150 V6 heads or 99+ mustang v6 heads
-97+ f-150 v6 lower intake, or 99+ v6 mustang lower intake
-99+ mustang v6 upper intake
-99+ mustang EGR tube and valve
-TPS sensor for TB (1-CX-1488 from Ford) if not already on TB
-99+ TB
-Modified fuel rail that has a universal fuel pressure regulator, and a return line.
-Accelerator Bracket (F4SZ-9728-B) if not already included on upper intake
-Throttle cable from 99+ mustang v6
-99+ mustang v6 coil pack and wires
-99+ mustang intake tube, or any 99+ mustang Cold Air Intake kit
-99+ mustang cooling hoses (including the ones going to the heater core) and pipes. You can also make your own lines, by using plumbing elbows,hoses and clamps, and fab it up yourself. note, if you use the 97+ f-150 lower, you'll have to fab it up yourself
-16 a.w.g automotive electrical wire
-teflon tape, pipe sealant, RTV
-99+head gaskets
-upper and lower intake manifold gaskets.
-TB gasket, 94-98 IAC gasket, 94-98 valve cover gaskets(reuse the 94-98 valve covers), exhaust header/manifold gaskets
-you can reuse the 94-98 headers
-use the 94-98 IAC since the 99+ IAC has a different connector
-radiator fluid, oil, filter, new spark plugs

Wowzers! Heh, ok, maybe that isn't the way to go then. I guess I'll buy the 94-98 while I get aquainted with stick, and when I have the money and am ready for something with more power, I'll sell the V6 and get a newer stang. Thanks for the info guys!

determine what your goals are, cuz a 99 up motor is still nothing amazing anywhere near stock. Definatly an improvment over the 94-98 stock specs but not anything to call home about.

For now, my goal is to ditch my 93 taurus the first chance I get, and get something with a little more style.  Since I want to learn stick, I figure I probably shouldn't get anything with too much power, especially since it will also be my first RWD car. The power in the taurus is adaquate for my driving, as I don't do any racing, so I figure 150hp in the 94-99 will suit me just fine until I'm ready for something more.
When I do want something more, I'm not sure how much more I'll want, but I'm sure something close to 200hp or more would be preferable at that point. So I was just curious if it was easily feasable to get the 94-98 V6 motor to that level, or if it would just be a lot easier to sell it and get a newer stang. Sounding like it'll be easier to get a newer stang.

If you have good mechanical ability and a good set of tools necessary to do the job you could opt for a performance set of Heads, Cam and Intakes from someone like RPM (which I have) or SuperSix Motorsports. They are both very good companies and have a great product. Either kit can get you gains that will bring you to GT performance.

even the 94-98 gts were slow turds with low hp/tq so dont fear having to much power in that range, they are all just as easy to drive. Dont expect to get great gas milage either. Most dont get very good~ stock maybe 22-24mpg on average or less.

But those 94-98 GT's are so easy to get past 99+ GT hp it's not funny

i would pick up a 5.0 if i was on a budget they are cheap/easy to mod/work on. The 96-98 gt 4.6 engines are known for being much worse than the 5.0 or 99+ 4.6s and suck all around....
