need help with dual monitors

so all laptops with windows xp are supposed to have built extended display options. for some reason, mine doesn't. I can get the same thing to display on the laptop screen and the external monitor, but thats not what I want. Does anyone know how to turn this option on your know of any software that will allow me to do the same thing?

mine are in my vid cards option menu it allows me to clone it, have extended up or extended down. Its probably in advanced or something around there if it can do it.

my video card options only lets me do the cloning. I guess i need to update my driver

either that or the vid card cant do it, google your vid card and the options you want see what pops up.

hhmmm, if you look here: http://support.intel.com/support/graphics/ my graphics control is the 82845g, which is listed under desktop controllers. Do you think I have the wrong driver installed some how?

what card do you have exactly, integreted gforce or something?

honestly, no idea. I just redownloaded the drivers from dell.com and reinstalled them, no change.

the microsoft website says all laptops w/ windows xp and video output can do it. I successfully did it on my room mates laptop.

its not windows xp that does it, its the video cars that does it. XP may have the ability but if the vid card doesnt then your SOL. My old vid card would not do it, my new one does it fine.
