I Just bought a 2000 Mustang GT in october and I went to the tire racks website and put in the year make and model of my car and it said the original equipment is 225/55/16 and then I went to discount tire and put in the same information and there website said the original equipment is 245/45/17. So which one is right? My car is garaged right now but I need new summer tires soon. I went and looked at my car and the tires that came with it are 225/55/16. So were there supposed to be 17's on it or what? Also is there a machine at tire places that can tell me exactly what the biggest tire is that I can put on? I want the widest tire I can get this summer but I dont want them to rub obviously and I dont want to do any modifications to the wheel well.

If you do indeed have 16" rims (I thought all GTs came with 17"s but I could be wrong), then the rim is probably a 16x7 rim. In this case, the biggest you'd want to put on there will be a 245/50/16.
Sounds like someone may have just put 16"s on the car.

in 99 many GT's came with the 16 inch wheels most of you know from the 02+ v6's. Yes it is VERY odd.... but many anniv. GT's have these 16 inch wheels. I would HIGHLY recommend you buy 17 inch ford wheels and new tires.

Well someone from another forum I posted on said that the 2000 gt's came stock with 16's and 17's were optional. I think this summer Im gona just get tires cause I need to by a beater for next winter to. But then next year im going to get some chrome 18's with my income tax. So 245/50/16 is the biggest I can get?

On a 7" wide ( ) wheel it will have a slight bulge, but it won't be too big. I know a lot of people put 245/50/16s on the old fox-body Pony wheels, which are also 16x7.

Yes, in 2000 there was something where the 16's were optional, I have a friend here in town whose car came like that.

I thought the 16's that came with those GT's were 16x7.5". I could be wrong though... Thats so weird they came with those small wheels, Id be pissed if I got a GT with 16s lol
