reving high

my car has been reving high recently and it's really freakin' annoying. everytime i stop at a light or whatever my engine still revs up to about 1500 or 2000 rpms for a few seconds, then it comes down to normal. what is causing this?

my 01 did this, its the idle decay rate. You can potentialy fix it by cleaning the MAF sensor with electronic NO residure contact cleaner (cleans on contact no need to wipe, and you shouldnt wipe)

and replace/clean out the idle bypass valve (located on the backside by the firewall right behind the throttle body if not bolted to it. Small little thing.

After this reset the computer (or unplug the neg battery terminal while you do this)

if this doesnt work then you can have it altered with a tune.

When I got my 04 it did the same thing, I went through all the cleaning of the MAF. Which didn't help !!! I got a SCT chip & had the idle decay rate lowered and that solved the problem

I never had that problem on my Mustang, but it did happen on my 97 Ranger. I cleaned the MAF sensor and reset the computer and its seemed to settle down for a while. Then it returned when I had the A/C on while I was at an idle. So I had it tuned. This seemed to fix the problem. Hope that helps.
