..and was looking for a place to hang and get ideas. Looks like I came to the right place!
I've been riding motorcycles for the last 10-15 years or so, and haven't had a decent hot rod in that time (we won't count my venture into the Sport Compact world, I got a good deal on a '92 240SX and thought it would be fun to fix up - it wasn't! LOL!). I was weaned on Mopars back in High School, owned a '68 Charger (440-auto), a '71 Cuda (440-4 speed) and a '71 Challenger convertible (340-4 speed), then a cool little '65 Formula S while I was in the Navy. Moved on to Fords in '82 when the GT's came out, traded it for a Capri RS in '83 and that one in on another RS in '86. After that, it's been a steady procession of "boring" (got married, got a "real" job, you know the drill) cars, until last week! My old Contour finally broke and I needed a new car. Local dealer had this coupe with only 15k miles on it, so I figured what the heck. Haven't really done anything to her yet, UPR knobs for the HVAC and door locks, and a chrome tip on the stock pipe (I had one on the shelf,it fit, and it was cheap! LOL!), but after digging around in here for a few hours, it doesn't look like she'll stay stock for long.
Anywho, just thought I'd introduce myself (Bryan, by the way) and say hi. Looking forward to hanging out.
Downtime!

Thanks! I started out looking for an unmolested '02 or '03 GT, but that turned out to be a tough find. I think the V6 will turn out to be a fun project anyway, and if it isn't enough, I can always give it to the wife (her Explorer is 3 years old now, so it's due for a trade in, might have to go towards a GT next year).
Downtime!

Thanks alot, Brad! I was actually going over to see a Silver one, and they sold it out from under me, but I ended up liking this one better anyway.

you need to start by taking those door gaurds off its easy and really makes it look better, its not like they wont hit the bottom fo the door first before that door gaurd anyway

Nothing would make me happier, those are ugly. Can I assume they're just glued on? In the motorcycle world, we'd use fishing line to "cut" the glue behind it and then some Goo Gone to clean up the residue. Is there an easier way?

it peals off, just make SURE you protect the paint as you peal it up. I would tap up the paint really good so as to not scratch it. It should come up pretty easy, just be very careful not to scratch the paint. A hair dryer and plastic utensils (something flat and sturdy~) or maybe some fishing line~ to get it started.

The way you described it is exactly how I'd go about it downtime, with a hairdryer too though.

OK, last post in this thread since it's getting a little off topic, but, is this better?!

Excuse the bad lighting and the dirty car. I used a small plastic body filler spreader, and since it was 85 here today, it came off very easy.

Soap and water, actually. Since it was so warm here today, there was no residue left at all, just a line of discoloration that good old GS27 took off. Using the spreader like a knife between the trim and the body as I pulled up on the trim | | |
