a friend of mine has a '65 I-6 and is looking for power without resorting to a 289 or 302 swap. so any help on power adders would be appreciated. also. does anyone know where to find some headers for this engine? thank you

swapping to a v8 won't be too much work, and really worth it in the long run if he isn't keeping it stock, IMO

im going to sound like a total teen ager when i say this. but the only straight 6 makers that i like are those from other countries. my brother and my friend both have 3 series BMW's and those are great engines. but in a classic. there is nothing better than small block V-8 running thorough long tube headers and dual flow masters or even open exhaust. and depending on how deep your pocket it you could make a 6 just a potent as an 8. but you may have to put a bit more into the 6 than you would an 8 from that era. in my eyes the car is already ruined as a classic so a 6 suits it fine. but my friend wants help getting his old stang to make the power to counteract the weight he has put in it.

it wont let me into that page because im not a member to that site. oh, btw. for anyone that was wondering. the car is ruined as a classic for me because of the dumb a$$ teen owner who put neon lights and a big stereo system in it. im not into any of that so any car with that in my eyes is completely ruined

Remember, the '65 200ci engine was 120bhp new. There are several options for new headers, dual outlet headers which may improve throttle response/hp but the gains will be minimal. They look very cool though.
There are alternatives for the head, you can use an aussie 250ci head which will show performance gains, and the intake can also be modified. Several people run 2bbl and 4bbl carbs in place of the OEM 1bbl.
The only real power you can get will not be from simple bolt-ons. Boring and stroking the block, new heads, intake and upgraded carb will show results.
You can also replace the ingnition system and see gains - but to get more power, you need to go with a power adder.
There are tons of SC and Turbo options, with the Turbo being the most popular on the 200ci engine. There are manufacturers returning to producing kits for this engine, and I can dig up a link for an entire turbo setup if you are interested, but it's not inexpensive.
Once you start to get more power out of the I6, you will run into the traditional issues of the tranny and weak 7.25" rear end. I'm not sure of the LSD options for these rear ends but you will start to see one-wheel burn outs and blown R&P's or bearings.
A 200ci is not a street-rod nor will you be able to take even the modest riced out honda without significant modifications to the engine/tranny/suspension/tires etc.

exactly. and thats why i say his car is ruined as a classic. and i refuse to work on his car unless it adds power and isnt chrome. i have a maxima so i know about all the rice remarks that people blurt out. and sadly. his car gets more rice jokes made about it than mine does. but look at it and its not too hard to see why.

he does not have the funds or the time for tranny/engine/drivetrain work so im trying to get him to stick close with fairly easily and inexpensive mods. the intake and carb isnt a bad idea. ill check up on prices and see if its within his limits. thanks for the help guys
