you know what i thought about the other night that would really piss off brands like the evo/sti?
ford creates a agressive little whippersnapper of a car, slaps a 2.4L 4cyl, 5spd manual and AWD, gives it 300ish hp(with a motor thats capible of 500, and a tranny that isnt glass, a-la wrx), and calls it the PINTO. that would rock. id so buy one in a heartbeat and go evo hunting in a Pinto.

That is what I have been trying to get across with my other posts. I really didn't put a lot of thought into what I was typing, but if it was a pinto, or a mercury bobcat, or something that would be a total sleeper, it would be sweet. 4 banger, awd, manual trans. make it haul more than what you could put in the trunk, and there would be a car that would sell.
When the mustang started out, it had more than 2 powerplants on the option list, so why not add something into the mix. If ford is afraid of taking sales away from the mustang, why not involve more variables for the car that they are looking to sell. It would make for something amazing.

I agree with this. Whatever happened to the days when you could get a LX hatchback, a LX coupe, a LX convertible, a GT hatchback or a GT convertible, which all had distinct styling? And that's not even beginning to get into engine options. I think there should be a V6 model as the base and two different levels of V8 engines, a 4.6 and a 5.4...

right on brother.
This doesn't just apply to dodge making the caliber. They have engineered almost all of their chassis' to accept a 5.7l motor. When ford went to a modular motor to cut costs, why didn't they re-engineer the vehicles to accept whatever motor that they could toss at it?

Dude, I am 6'2" and I can fit into the back seat of a mustang comfortably. I know that it wasn't supposed to be a family car, but it has always been the only two door that you could fit a full size adult in the back seat. Do that in a camaro or firechicken.

Light little fireballs they were
I could even score the trim when I was driving one...
One of my GF made joke about it all the time but then again she new I did not
need the "phallic compensation" of a large engine in a fast car like some do.
Anyone remember the VW commercial about e "lowest Ego-Emissions"
Pinto's were pretty fast if driven right. I really flogged that little 2.0 OHC hard!
I bet I could have bested nearly anything short of a stock 5 speed 99^ V6 Mustang in that car.
I did some timed runs in it and it was jsut a tick off of the turbo Shelby Charger I used to own...
