Brake rotor question

I need new rear rotors very soon and will need new front rotors shortly. i was considering getting drilled and slotted rotors until i started hearing that they were prone to cracking and breaking. So now im wondering if i should just stick with stock replacement rotors? Also i have noticed many have a zinc coating but i am unsure about it's purpose. Some say it prevents rusting and some say it adds strength. What is your experience with these types of rotors and does the zinc coating do anything? Thanks for your help

just go OEM. Drilled and slotted will warp or crack unless you buy really expensive ones, and even then they will eventually warp or crack. The coating is only there to prevent rust.

Get drilled and slotted if you want the look and are willing to replace them sooner than normal rotors. If it was me, I'd just go with normal rotors, and be sure to get zinc coating, rotors look like crap without it.

Are the rotors that are just drilled or just slotted any stronger or do these all take away from the strength of the rotors? I would assume the only difference between rotors from a 94-98 GT is that they would be larger in diameter so would they fit inside my stock wheels? Or would I need to upgrade to larger wheels also because I was considering buying a set of 17" wheels from a friend of mine with a GT. If I upgraded to the GT wheels could I then fit the GT rotors onto my car? Hope I worded this correctly. Thanks for your help.

94-04 mustang v6 and mustang gts have the same brake calipers and rotors, they are interchangable. You can clear an 11 inch rotor on your stock 15 inch rims. If you would like cobra brakes (13 nich rotors) then you need at least 17 inch rims the 15s wont fit anymore.

dont buy slotted and drilled they warp in no time, buy OEM rotors and be done with it, 11 inch rotors with slotts and drill holes look funny anyway (to small)

if you ever do any track time...drag...autocross...etc, then they will advise against you doing slotted/drilled rotors.

however slotted only with sufficient brake cooling is great for track use as most slotted rotors are vented as well.

but generally speaking OEM or brembo blanks are your best choice.
