Just wondering a few things about these. I'm looking to do something small to the engine this summer, but something kinda noticable. Ok..with p/p intakes (upper and lower), will I need to have a tune done? Also, I know it's not but around 10 hp tops, but where is the gain in the power band? Just kinda curious.

No you will not need a tune and the power gain is up top I would think. The tune comes in with a cam...

Actually I believe the 99+ would respond well to a ported upper and lower since their Heads already flow well.

Hm...the reason I don't want nitrous is I'd be wayy too tempted to use it too much. And it would get expensive to drive the hour to the nearest fill station around here.

I would do the ported intakes Then save up for some nice heads for a mod for the summer after this one. Make it a nice slow project build up?

I'm in the process right now of porting my lower intake. The ports and runners are incredibly tiny. The uppers aren't so bad but yea the lower intake is very restrictive. It's not the funnest process but then again if you have the proper tools unlike me, then it will go by a lot smoother. It's almost free hp depending on what you spend on tools.

As well as the 99-04 intakes flow, there is still ALOT of material to remove. You might be surprised to the amount of air flow you can pick up by porting them.

I have a ported upper intake here... of course I did the work, but yeah, there is a lot of material to be removed.... A LOT. I still have a little bit of finishing work to do on it.

Very true. I did the first set ever in April, 1999, had a guy yank his and
sned them to me from Texas and he dynoed it, got +13 RWHP and + 16 RWTQ.
The torque was pretty much from 2500 RPM and up, and added 13 HP at the
peak. The torque down low comes from smoother runners and laminar flow.
Hog out those short runners to the gaskets, and just square up the long
runners. I only marginally enlarged the short runners on the one above, and
it still gained 13 HP. I suggest a cam and intake porting all the time to those
with limited funds, the heads flow really well for stock. Better than almost all
small block Ford heads ever cast, and if you consider velocity, they flow better
than even 4V Cleveland heads. Lots better. Almost the same flow with ports
that are 1/2 the size of a 4V Cleveland. Pretty good for 30+ years of technology.

Have you considered a 3/8" spacer too that's ported? I got a spacer on mine but I don't know if I got the $$$ to do PP upper and lower.
