TO: All U.S. Ford and Lincoln Mercury Dealers
SUBJECT: Awareness Communication: Upcoming Safety Recall 06S43
Certain 2003 and 2004 Model Year Mustang Cobra Vehicles
Accelerator Pedal Shield Installation
REASON FOR THIS COMMUNICATION
To inform you that Ford Motor Company is notifying the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of an upcoming safety recall on the affected vehicles. Parts are not currently available to complete the required repair. Once NHTSA has been informed, there is a possibility that you may be contacted by customers about the recall. This notice will help you answer customer questions.
REASON FOR THIS SAFETY RECALL
The rear surface of the accelerator pedal may come into contact with floor carpeting during heavy throttle application. For those vehicles where the floor carpeting does not fit flush with the sheet metal, the unique rear surface profile of the Mustang Cobra accelerator pedal may catch in the carpet cutout behind the accelerator pedal. This could interfere with the pedal's ability to return to an idle position. As a result, some customers may experience unexpected continued throttle application and/or increased stopping distances.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
Certain 2003 and 2004 model year Mustang Cobra vehicles built at the Dearborn Assembly Plant from March 19, 2002 through April 1, 2004.
SERVICE ACTION
It is anticipated that the complete dealer bulletin announcing this upcoming action will be provided to dealers in mid-April 2006, once parts to repair this condition are available.
CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION
Owners of affected vehicles will not be notified until after dealers have received service repair and parts ordering information. It is anticipated that customer notification will begin in late-April 2006.
OASIS AND FSA VIN LISTS
OASIS and FSA VIN lists will be activated once the full dealer bulletin has been posted.

Yeah, heard about this a couple days ago. It's about time they recalled this. I know a lot of people who got their pedal stuck at WOT. Not a good place to be stuck. lol. I Don't have to worry about it though. My gas pedal fell off during a brake stand a few months back and is sitting on the table on my porch along with its replacement that has yet to be installed.

ha, they should have this recall for every mustang out there... and give everyone the "raised gas pedal mod" since fords a bunch of idiots and put the pedal 1" away from the carpet to begin with making any sort of heal-toe driving nearly impossible in stock form.

I think my floor mat covers my petal area where it would contact the floor. I have also heard its at the throttle body and not the carpet anyway~ the cable can jump over the guide and get stuck~

And put the clutch up next to the dash so you have to raise your knee into the steering column to use it. lol

No, it's the carpet. It gets hooked up. Happened to me slightly once between shifts. It will hold the pedal to the floor.
I haven't heard of any stock TB issues....I have heard about BBK and accufab TB issues...which is why I am waiting for billetflow to finish their new TB design...their old design was great...and now they are making it better.

the parts aren't in yet? get a God damn 1" nylon spacer and a metal screw tie... costs $0.50 each car that comes in, it's the cheapest damn fix I've ever heard... hell I did it to my car, just for the fun of it.

Ford has to prepare and stock every dealership that could possibly see a cobra for this recall - that's a lotta ground to cover, and it takes a good while to set things in motion on that scale

The replacement pedal is still sitting on my table on the back patio with the original broken one. I have grown kind of used to the lack of a pedal...except when driving barefoot. I will get it on there one of these days. I just don't fit under the dash very well...so I have been procrastinating. Plus, I tried to replace it once...and I couldn't get the original pin out...got pissed...had to walk away.
