Anyone have anyidea's about what I will need to tear it down, clean up and rebuild a '68 302 V8? This will be my project, the motor runs, has about 80-100,000 miles on it, I would "like" to change it to fuel injected, but I am willing to keep it how it is. i will toss some pics up soon, but this is a short to med. term project. also anyone know the space size for the motor mounts for a 98 V6?

If you can get all the parts gathered, it should take about a day to build. Really can't tell ya what your gonna need until you tear the engine apart and look at the damage. But, you can start off with all new gaskets and bolts.

take all the work and money you think it will take and double it then add on another 50% for good measure and you will be close.

mm, its a good strong engine, it is in a 1965 Ford Galaxie 500 2 door hard top, my Great grandpa bought it new, then my Grandpa had it, then it was my dads first car, and now its sitting in my drive way. it came stock with a 289 V8, dad blew it up, bought a 302 V8 out of a 1968 Mustang, I have wanted to restore this car, but that would take LOTs of money that we dont have. so I wanted to atleast keep the motor up and good and drop it into my car. If this does not work out I will be getting a 4.0L V6 to put in there.

also please dont just say "go buy a GT or a new car" My 98 will not be sold, I will be getting a 04 GT in 2 years (dad and i have a agreement for this) and this summer I will be getting a newer Ford Explorer to drive daily.

you can count on spending more than you initially though you would. With older motors there is usually more wrong with it than you know, haha. If you plan on adding any power to this motor I would recommend getting something other than those cast pistons too, I learned that the hard way

guess you missed the part where he wanted to keep THAT motor in good condition...haha
why 89-91? wasn't 89 the last year that they put forged internals in it? I would go with 86-89 for that reason...since 85 was the last year that they were carbed, if you got 86-89 you'd have fuel injected AND the forged internals

91.5-93 were the hyper-pathetic pistons.
my reasoning for 89-91 was for forged pistons and mass air.
so buy a fox, gut its block and put everything on the 68 block. then call it a day lol. 68 block is stonger and the fox block is roller so good combo

I'd build a late model 302 for alot of reasons
1.One piece rear main seal
2.roller cam
3.lighter reciprocating assembly
4. Can usually be found cheap and in better shape
