thats what the old AOD guys used to do, your car will run NO faster shifting it, you paid for an auto, you have an auto, dont treat it like a manual. Leave it in drive and go, the car can shift much faster than you can.

I've NEVER understood the whole manually shifting an auto thing...why? I know some people didn't have the option at the time you were looking (like me), but if you're going to shift and auto, why didn't you just get a manual? There's no point and you're just taking away the only advantage the auto has: it can shift faster than you can.

the only time you have to shift an auto is if it has a FULL manual valve body. other then that leave the damn thing in D and go.

Guys I hate to bust your bubble but with a performance auto tranny like I do people who drag race will use first to start of when they hit the magic rpm number they shift into drive. If you have a built motor even with a shift kit and tune the tranny wants to shift you before the engine is ready especially from 1st to 2nd. as far as wear and tear on the auto that is a moot point considering my auto will outlast your manuals and can handle more HP than most of your manuals.

The old AOD shuffle was worth a solid tenth of a second at the strip,
if you shifted at the right RPM (higher). Now the reprogramming of
the newer auto's will do this for you, much better than you can do.
But it needs reprogrammed.

Yes, on the newer trannies. I thnk all since (and including) the AOD-E can do this.
AOD was non-electronic, it used a vacuum referenced modulator and
TV (kick-down) cable.
