I want to put the throttle body and CAI on an '06. When you install most CAI kits on '06, they require a computer refresh (load). Is this refresh required for BBK?

I think you would be much better off with a tune (not just a chip) after such a thing. I would just save up and get it all at once to ensure it all goes right so when you have it tuned you will be good to go.

I believe there are indeed some CAI's for the 05+ GTs that do not require a tune (or flash, whatever you want to call it). However, you'd be much better off saving up and doing it both at once like Spector said. Because no matter what the manufacturer says... there is always a slight risk that your car is different and may indeed run lean. A popular combo seems to be the JLT CAI with a SCT chip from Bama Chips.
These new GTs are very touchy when it comes to intake mods.

If it just requires a refresh, all that means is you unplug your battery for 30 minutes, plug it back in, and the computer relearns everything. They say to do that since you'll be moving more air with the CAI kit, so your computer compensates the fuel, etc. for that added air. Its not a big deal...

I don't think that's what he is referring to though. I believe "flash" may have been the word he was looking for.

Why else would they require you to "flash" or "refresh" or whatever you call it with just a TB and CAI? Ive never heard of needing a chip for something that small. Of course I know absolutely nothing about the electronics in the 05+, but I wouldnt think something as simple as a couple bolt ons would need to be tuned...

On the 05's, just about anything dealing with the intake system requires a tune. That's the main thing I don't like about them.
Hell, I changed just about everything on the '90 and never touched the computer. Not to say that it couldn't use a tune...

Simply flowing more air than stock will not require a flash or tune as the ECU will compensate for this, though any induction kit that has a larger MAF bore than stock will change the electronics output voltage signal of the MAF and then will require tuning on the dyno for that particular induction kit. Also of note, the tune for brand A will not work for brand B, though most systems requiring a tune usually have them available in the Diablo or SCT packages.

I put the BBK CAI on my 06 GT Mustang and it did NOT cause any problems nor cause any "check engine" lights. If the same MAF diameter and stock MAF electronics are used no "reflash" is required.
Without a tune the BBK gave my 6 RWHP...with a tune it went to 13 RWHP.

Any slight change in the diameter of the air intake tube or MAF causes the MAF to no longer get an accurate read. If you try to install a CAI that is not specially designed to not require a tune (i.e. the JLT, Steeda, etc) without having it tuned properly... it'll run lean and probably go into "Limp Home" mode.
I personally would be weary of any product that claims to not require a tune (i.e. K&N, BBK)... Number one, because if it does not require a tune, chances are it is because it really doesn't flow much more than stock. You'll make more power with a higher flowing CAI and a proper tune. If you're gonna spend your money doing something, at least do it right. Number two, I do not trust manufacturers' claims. It may have worked just fine on the five or so cars they tested it on without a tune. That doesn't guarantee that it won't fuck mine up to hell and back.
Simply put, if you put on a CAI and it ends up running too lean and ruining your motor, your warranty is not gonna cover it (unless you have a connection at the dealership or just a really cool dealer). You then will be up a creek (which will be decidely brown in color and won't really smell of roses) without out any sort of device to propel yourself against the current and up said creek.

03/04 cobras have been known to run dangerously lean with a cai/exhaust so thats why im not putting a cai on my car until I can get a tune as well.
