The thing about mufflers is this: everybody has a different taste (as made evident by this thread). It's almost like music. I for one, love the sound of Flowmasters, but others hate it. You really need to hear them yourselves before you make a decision, if at all possible. Sound clips give you a good idea, but like Brandon said, hearing the car run through the gears from inside it will give you a better idea than anything.
I really wish I could get some clips of mine for you H/C/I + ProChamber + Flowmasters = teh goodness. Of course, remember that's all just my opinion. Although, some might say my opinion is the only one that matters...

Yeah, you should be able to find a kit that has 3" tips from the muffler back. I know Mac makes one. Macs also have that real deep, rumble type sound... so you may want to go to that site I posted and listen to a couple clips of them. You may like them.

If you're goint to change mufflers and want 3" tail pipes... just by a complete 3" cat-back system and you'll get both.
You were talking about changing mufflers too... right?

You won't hurt anything by not running tail pipes. A lot of people run "dumps" which is just a little pipe pointing down at the ground right after the muffler, or just the muffler and nothing behind it. My LX was like that for a while before I got the money to get some tips. The only reason I got rid of it was because of how ungodly loud it was. I could drive into a parking deck and set off every single car alarm in it.
You really will be better off just saving up and getting the entire catback. If you do that, you won't even have to take it to a muffler shop to install it. It will all just bolt right up (unless you just want to have the connections spot welded to help prevent leaks). They may be able to step the pipe size up to 3" coming out of the muffler... I'm not sure. But if you do it that way, you'll have to pay them to weld up the tips and then pay them again whenever you decide to change mufflers.

correct i have a 94 gt with an H pipe and flow masters and it sounds like a 87/93 gt i am saying those years cause they are a little more common and if you see one of those you can talk to who is driving it and decide if thats what u want yours to sound like! Not all 87/93s run them but in my experiance most do.
