After reading EclipseGTSDude's thread about his times and reading a few others, I'm discovering that almost stock GT's run the same 1/8th mile times as me. How is that possible when I have almost 100 more hp than a stock GT? Yet, when I took it, to the track, there was a GT that was spraying that didn't have the top speed I had, don't know about times because they were just showing speeds that night. So what's going on? I would also have thought that with about 330 to the wheels I should be easily in the 8's if not mid 8's...? I know I don't build boost at all in first gear, but WTF? I also don't spin that bad out the hole. Yet I've beeaten stuff on the road that I know beats GT's like my buddies SRT-4. His best time that night was slower than my worst time and I know he beats GT's all the time badly...? What's up here?

there are many factors that come into play. 03/04 cobras dont run much better than mid 8s stock I dont believe~ (not 100% sure on that) and manage highish 12s stock in the quarter.
Until you get some practice in and get those numbers consistant and what not you will not know what the car can do. You should be cutting low 60fts (2.1~) etc etc. What were all the numbers on your slip when you went?
And just because you run 9.X in the 8th doesnt mean you will run 14.X in the quarter either you may be faster/slower who knows. Once does not 100% determine the other.
As it currently sits the auto is KILLING your times (and your power @ the wheels), with a tq converter, manual valve bodyshift kit, rear end gears, and good tires you would be amazed at the difference though.

Post your full slips again, if you don't mind. I can't remember what you had for 60' and mph and such.

What do ya'll think it would do in a 1/4 track as is? I've heard that the MPH is the biggest factor in how powerful your car is, not neccessarily the ET...
I know I would benefit big time form a tq converter, I don't hardly spin at all in the box so I'm not sure if the tires are really a problem, I don't want to upgrade gears because that can actually hurt a FI car...I really think it's that no boost dead first gear that hurts it the most, that's why my 60ft is so bad...

well with a 2.10 60ft you would shave off nearly 4 tenths~ (at least 3) alone. My bet is that you would be in the mid 13s as is~

#1) Those 60's are pretty bad. With a set of drag radials and an automatic (much less harsh on the tires than a manual at launch), you should be able to pull off at least a 1.8 60'. That's half a second right there. You'll probably actually lose more than that. They say that every tenth in the 60' is worth nearly two tenths overall (for a 1/4 mile track). I'd say you'd lose right around .7 seconds. Also since you have a turbo, you're gonna want to launch the car at a decent RPM. I've never raced an automatic though, so I can't tell you the best method to do so.
#2) Like Brandon said: torque converter and shift kit. Once again, I'm far from an expert on automatics. But from what I understand, they are very important to running decent times.
#3) Don't fear the gear.

Yeah I do need to pull down that 60 ft, but I don't want to put drags on it because I don't want to buy a new rear end the next day. I haven't really been watching my rpm's, I need to. I think~ I've been launching pretty soft with the power braking, I'm going to try for a launch at around 3k this Saturday...
Gears can actually hurt the forced induction cars times because they don't put enough load on the blower, or something like that.

Actually drag radials are not that bad on the 7.5 as much as big ass slicks. Since you are not building crazy HP at the bottom there is very minimal risk of major failure.
I am not sure I buy the not doing gears because of forced induction. Do you have open differential or a Tloc. I would consider getting a PATC Transmission like I have to help quite a bit at launch. I have a 2500 stall TQ and a PATC Interceptor 4R70W tranny

This is true. Plus the fact that automatics are no where near as bad as manuals on them. I think you should be okay, but I guess you never know with the 7.5s.
I also not to sure about the gears and boost deal... I know some people recommend lower (numerically) gears just due to traction issues, especially in set-ups where the boost comes in at low RPMs. However, a higher (once again, numerically) gear will get you into boost much quicker. If I were you, I'd have to at least put some 3.73s in there.

Right, I think~ I've been launching somewhere around 2k without really breaking traction...
I've always been told by those who already had 3.73's put in or 4.10's that they don't allow the turbo/sc spool up enough. I've also been told by Andy and _J_, so forth that stock gearing is fine, maybe 3.55, but no higher than that....

ET street drag radials I believe. I doubt he has the stock rear.

your car would probably run slower times if you run slicks on your car as long as you are not having major traction issues. If you could rev her up to about 3k or 4k and launch on some DRs or Slicks you would run an AMAZING time.

I'm thinking if I rev up to 3k or 4k I will have traction issues so better tires may help yet.

Hmm..how do those compare to the "PI Stallion 3000 stall" converters. The reason I ask is it seems that an offer for one with only 2oo miles on it has fallen into my lap. He is asking $550 shipped. I've heard good things about these, is that a good price? Because if these Fuddle's are good, that's still about the same price as a new one of those...

Oh, Precision Industries. They make "Vigilante" converters for LS cars. They're supposed to be really good. They are damn pricey, though.

Well I found out that the PI 3000 stall Stallion torque converter I was offered does have lock up, but it is not the multi disc with the 3 plate set up...
The seller said he has not heard of a 3.8 running the multi disc, but that is what everyone I have talked to has recommended and what I thought would be the best option. Please correct me if I am wrong.
He only wants $550 for it with 200 miles...

Your 60 ft is terrible. You should be in the 1.8-1.7 range with a good set of drag radials. What exactly is your suspension mods?

Well rain sucks. We called the track at 9:00 and when we got there at 10:00 it looked like no one had been there for a long time. I understand why though, it's just the whole getting ready thing and then oh sorry. Oh well.
As far as suspension, all I have are lowering springs and a Detroit Tru Trac. I'm looking into getting a rear sway bar pretty soon. Right now I don't want it bad enough to get a set of drag radials, I just wonder what I can do to get times down right now. Also how good are drag radials for every day driving and in the rain?

They aren't very good in the rain.Lowering springs are hurting you because you most likely have no weight transfer. To add to that lowering the car also affects pinion angle which will affect how well your car hooks.

Well me and a buddy officially stop watched my 0-60 time tonight.
From a dead stop with no power braking, it's about 6.1 on average, and this is factoring in about .2 seconds for me to move my foot from brake and stomp on gas and for him to recognize what I said and press stop.
Now with power braking my 0-60 was an average of 5.5 also factoring in the time it took me to let up the brake and him to stop the clock.
Now when I took it to the track, basically all I did was monitor all my systems EXCEPT rpm's and was focused on good reaction times, which apparently don't really matter as I'm just concerned with ET's. So I basically revved it a little and just punched it. But now if I make a concerted effort to power brake it up to just under 2k (where it starts breaking loose) I should bea able to shave that .1 second with no problem and be in the 8's easily as is. Now imagine that with a stall converter.
I will be going to the track for test and tune tomorrow night, Friday night as soon as my grad ceremony is finished. Anyone that wants to see possibly the first v6 stang to break into the 8's in the tri cities area (or further) come and see.
