It seems like I cant keep this POS running right for more than a week at a time. Here's the deal... My car seems to miss at high RPMs, or just while under WOT in general. So far Ive replaced the coil, cap, rotor, wires & plugs about 12k miles ago with autolite copper plugs. The wires are 8mm wires, nothing fancy. Ive had problems like this in the past and replaced the coil and it seemed to cure the problem for a while, now its back. I replaced the coil again and it didnt really help... so I need to figure out what the underlying problem is. I havnt changed anything on the car to make it start doing this, it just does. Timing is set at 13* i believe. What happens is when I just go straight to WOT, it feel like the car almost boggs, the tach will jump around, and it just wont feel right. Once I get into 3rd and 4th gear and take it up to 4500-5000 RPMs, the RPMs will skip real fast straight to 6k but it doesnt feel like im being "propelled" during that last 1k RPMs because it happens so quick. Its hard to describe, but thats the best I can do... anyone have anything they can suggest? Im so tired of all this crap constantly happening when I really take good care of the car with maintenance and everything. Please help.
I think tomorrow Ill try cleaning my TPS and MAF sensors just for piece of mind. Ive cleaned the MAF in the past 10k miles, but the TPS hanst been touched since I bought the car. TPS is on the throttle body correct? Can I clean it without actually removing it from the TB or does it need to be taken off? Tomorrow Im also going to pull the plugs and make sure they all look ok on the electrodes. Besides that, anyone have any other tips?

Hey Zimstang. I assume you have a 5speed in the car, since its a Cobra. How many miles on it anyways? Why I ask, is that it might be your clutch telling you that it might be due to be changed. Just an idea to throw out there.

80k miles... but when I throw it in 4th or 5th driving around, and then get on it, it wont rev up real high, then catch and rev back down like a classic slipping clutch.

When my tach started acting up my TFI module was going out.I know your module is in a different location than mine but it could be the cause.

Also, its not just the tach... you can feel the engine struggling at certain points (or whatever it is struggling)

im getting a lot of people saying it might either be the clutch, a bad injector, failing fuel pump, or clogged filter. I changed the filter right when I got the car about a year ago. My little brother ran it bone dry of gas at one point, but I wouldnt think a filter that's as new as it is would fail because of that... plus it drove fine for a while, then just started doing this. How do i check for a bad injector or tell if my fuel pumps failing?

That would expain why at WOT you start to have problems, the pump can't keep up with the demand. You don't have an excess of miles on it, but just the age will make it deteriorate. Before you do that however, run some Lucas fuel sys cleaner first. If you have a clogged injector that will clean those out and your problem is fixed without having to buy a $150 pump.

I would get it dyno tuned first and then go from there... can see exactly what your fuel is doing like SpectorV said.

Ill probably end up changing the pump anyway since Ill be supercharging it this summer... Im thinking a 255lph will be plenty, and Ill run that fuel system cleaner too and see if that helps out. When changing a pump, all you do is unstrap the tank, drop it down... then what? Im getting low on gas, so Ill probably run it until Im scared its out of gas to keep things on the lighter side. I have a jack so Ill just lower it down using that. How do I make sure the filler tube doesnt get caught up when I lower the thing down?
