I have a 99 v6 mustang and I need to change the fuel filter. I am pretty sure I know what Im doing, but I have a couple questions. Does my car require the special tool? Where exactly is the filter located (I think its close to the gas tank, but havent really looked)? And do I have to press that button in my trunk before hand? Thanks

you need a special little tool to remove the line, the filter is behind the gas tank, you cant miss it. Just use the tool, remove the lines, and put the new one back in securly. Start the car and check for leaks (you can turn the car to the on position with out cranking a few times to get the pressure built up in the lines as well)

Gas WILL come out when you remove the filter so be ready for it.

Yeh, my car is overdue for this, just gotta get off my lazy butt and go get a tool. As far as the location, it's hard to miss. Just follow your fuel line from the gas tank and you'll run right into it. You need a flat head screwdriver to remove the little metal piece that holds the filter into place.

So if I go to autozone or wherever to buy this special little tool, what is it called or what does it look like?

A word of warning... you may want to either wear some saftey goggles (the kind that have foam round the lense and "seal" against your face) or just be sure you are out of the way when you disconnect the line.

Last time I did it, I was having a hard time getting it off, which resulted me in not being careful of where my eyes were when I finally did. Gasoline + eyes = ouch.

Here's an example of the tool you need:

Easier to do that than try to describe it.
