Hi I need help.

I have an Automatic 95 V6 Mustang. Since 2 weeks ago my car’s Stick shift is giving me problems and almost every time when I try to move it from Parking to reverse it is stuck and needs to be jerk around. This morning I couldn’t even move it after trying to jerk the stick it is stuck on Parking.

Anyone knows why is it doing that? What can I do to move it so I can drive it to a mechanic?
And what would be the cost to fix it?

are you pushing the brake in all the way? the if not, you're probably tripping the shift lock...

I don't know for sure what's wrong... but somehow, I think the point where you're jerking the shifter, that might not be too great for the car. Anyway, I know when my mom's van stopped wanting to shift, it's because she was trying to shift it before she had depressed the brake all the way, and then once she had pushed it all the way, because she had been jerking it, it sorta locked up.

It's the sensor going out in your transmission.

I'm not entirely positive where or what it is, but it's basically a brake lock out sensor. That's what it sounds like to me. My friend's 05 had something similar happen to it, he could not take the car out of park because his sensor had died. Like I say, I'm not sure where it is however and what to do about it, it just sounds like there is a short in that switch somewhere.

i had an issue like this b/c the installers of the stereo are jackasses.

but what i did to get around this was to turn the car on without starting it, shift it into drive, or reverse, then turn it all the way on

Uhm...Kyle...you can't turn the car on with it in reverse or drive. Otherwise you really have more problems than you thought with that almighty 3.9.

There is a solenoid in the shifter mechanism which prevents the shifter from being moved out of park until it is energized. The brake pedal switch closes when the pedal is depressed energizing the solenoid.

With the ignition key in the run position, but without starting the engine, depress the brake pedal and listen for the click of the solenoid energizing. It is not very loud, so turn off the radio Also have someone tell you if the brake lights are on

If you hear the click, but cannot move the shifter, the solenoid may be out of adjustment or the lock out pin is jammed. The shift mechanism will have to be disassembled to determine the cause.

If the click is not heard, but the brake lights illuminate, then the solenoid or the wiring to it is faulty. First have the wiring at the solenoid checked for voltage. If there is 12 volts at the solenoid, and the connector is intact, tight and free of corrosion, then the solenoid should be replaced. If there is no voltage at the solenoid, then trace the wiring back until the voltage discontinuity is found.

If the click is not heard and the brake lights do not illuminate, the brake pedal switch is faulty or out of adjustment. The switch is mounted to the brake pedal bracketry under the instrument panel. Examine the switch and try to actuate it manually. If this illuminates the brake lights, then adjust the position of the switch so that the brake pedal arm contacts it and closes the switch when the brake pedal is depressed.

If manually actuating the switch does not cause the brake lights to illuminate, examine the wiring and connectors to the switch for breaks and loose connections. If the wiring is intact, replace the switch.

Check for a manual override

You still can't do that. The car will only crank if it is in park or neutral.

hahaha, it's true... I remember when I came out of my concussion, I tried to start my car, cause it wasn't running (fuel pump shut off safety), but failed to realize it was still in D... NOTHIN'... I said " SON OF A BITCH".. then, got out and got checked by the first responders and shit. After my wits came to me, I popped the trunk, hit the switch, tried it again, still realizing it wasn't in P... finally shifted to P, started up and drove home. True story.
