if your referring to horsepower to the wheels, most stock autos are about 10-15rwhp below 5 speeds on mustangs. Thats just based on what i have seen and been told though. However, an automatic with a stall and a set of low gear can hold it own with alot of stick shifts.

Stall is referring to a high stall torque converter. It basically lets you get into your peak power range sooner than a stock torque converter. If you get the proper stall, a shift or retune, and gears, an auto can certainly hang with a manual.

There is a torque converter tech info thread on this site if that helps any. You basically need to know what your ultimate hp goals will be.
I would just talk to a local shop that has very good references or speak with some of the online dealers. They will be able to set you up with a good stall that will be good for fun and daily driving. You will also want to install an additional tranny cooler as the stall converters can cause more heat which is a trannies worst enemy.
Here's the improvement they will make: Right now I run a high 8 to low 9 in the 1/8th mile, with about a 3000 rpm stall converter, there is every possibility I can shave at least a half second off that time. They are well worth the money.
