On a 97 mustang, I am looking at these tires and wheels:
black FR500 17x9 front with 275/40-17 tires
black FR500 17x10.5 rear with 315/35-17 tires
my question is.. will these have any problems fitting? How do they look? anyone have pictures or have them on your cars (preferrebly black)? What different tire sizes can you use on the rims? Like can I use 285/35 or 285/40 instead of the 315/35??
thanks a bunch

275/40/17 works perfect for a 17x9 rim its the ONLY size i would EVER run on them, as for the back they will also fit perfectly, the ONLY issue you may have is rubbing in the back and I highly doubt you will have that problem.
Look into yokahoma avs es100s on tirerack.com~ not sure if they make a 315, and if you buy nitto they run more narrow so keep that in mind.

285 will be too narrow for a 10.5" rim. If you're gonna put a 10.5" rim in the back, you really should go with a 315/35/17. #1) It is the right width tire for the wheel. #2) It will be the same overall height as the stock tires, which will keep your speedometer from being off.
If you don't want to put bigger tires out back, you probably should just stick with the same width wheel all around.

good info.
i would love to go same around, but have yet to find the FR500 deep dish thats not 10.5 inch, maybe the 315's will be fine, i was mainly worried about wet traction

you wont find any less than 10.5 i dont think, i have not. I would go 9 wide all around or 10.5 and buy 315s out back.

i have 17x9 deep dish bullitts all around, and the fronts are perfectly fine, but the rear comes within an inch of rubbing the tires against the exhaust... if you want 10.5x9s, measure to make sure you'll clear, or else be sure to have your exhaust moved inward slightly

Or you can by a set of rear wheel spacers in the 1in range and leave the exhaust alone

1 inch wheel spacers with the offset of those 10.5" wheels will stick out of the fenderwell too far and cause the tire to get shredded by the inside fender lip. Just move the exhaust inward, its cheaper than 100 dollar spacers or a 350 dollar fender roller. Or both. Who knows, you might not even have to mess with the exhaust.

I really dont think you're going to have problems with rubbing your exhaust. I havnt had trouble on either one of the cars Ive owned with DD's on them.

Rims are 18x9 in front with 285/35/18 and 18x10 deep dish in rear with 295/35/18s. Dont get 285s on the front, the only reason mine fit is because they run a size small. 275/35/18 will be fine up front.

you dont run into any more rubbing problems going from a 17 inch to a 18 inch for that matter as the tire diameter is changed (the size of the tire) so the overall height is the same~
