What size Tires on 05GT 20" Rims?

I have decided on 20 inch rims and they measure 20x8.5 and 20x10. I wanted to put 255/35/20 on the front and 275/35/20 on the rear. I like the reviews I've read on the Firestone wide oval tires and they make the rear size, but not the front. Was considering 245/40 on the front, which they do make, but I think it's a little tall. What size tires do you reccomend? Does anybody have a pic. of their car with the tire sizes they are running? |

I would go at least 295 on the rear 20x10! If it will fit your car that is! I don't see why it would'nt.Look into it. That's the proper size for that rim and will help protect you from curb rash. |

Looking at the tirerack.com nobody makes that size. I got my sizes from the size tires Cervini puts on their new Eleanor wheel and tire combos. Problem is trying to find some tires that are somewhat reasonable in this size is really hard, maybe I should have stuck with 18's.  Well I'm committed now, I've got the wheels. |

One other thing you're gonna want to do is correct your speedometer for the diameter difference between your stock wheels and these..

These tires are less than 1% different than the original for dia. Speedometer re-calibration shouldn't be necessary. Does anyone have 20's already and can list their tire size? Comment on how they fit, ride etc? |

The first thing is determining the width of the tire needed, for a 10 inch wide rim you need AT LEAST a 295mm wide tire, AT LEAST you can go to a 305 as well.
For a 8 inch a 245 works, for an 8.5 I would run at least a 265 wide tire.
Now the sidewall has to be specific so that the FINAL overall diameter of the wheel when its mounted ONTO the rim of your choice (in this case 20 inch rims) is the same the overall diameter of the STOCK TIRE that came on the care. You simply need to get a milimeter to inch converter and do a bit of match.
If you could post your stock tire size specifications I could do the math for you. I cant remember the extact size tire the 05+ mustangs have on it.
If you dont get the correctly setup sidewall for your tires (the sidewall number is the percentage of how tall the sidewall is compared to the tread width.
A 245/45/17 tire. The 245 is 245 mm wide for the width of the tire. The 45 number is the percentage the sidewall is OF the tread width. In this case the sidewall of the tire is 45% of the tread width... or 45% of 245. Do that calculation and obtain how many milimeters the sidewall actually is.
The final number is the rim size... so as you can see the wider the tire the lower the sidewall number needs to be.
Post your stock tire info and we will do some number calculating.

Go to Nittotires.com and you should be able to find something there! The new Saleen's come w/275/35/zr20's so u should be able to find those tires either from saleen or pirelli.The saleen 20's are 20x9(front)and 20x10(rear)although like I said I would go wider if you can find them.Like Spector said 295mm is the (proper) size for a 10"wide rim but you can always go 305 from Nitto. A little wider may be better b/c it will help protect your rims from curb rash and it won't look bad either.Good Luck. |

What kind of rims did you buy and what's the backspace b/c that will determine whether or not a wider tire will fit w/o modification. If I remember correctly the new gt's come 235mm wide stock.The saleen's may also have a diff. backspace. |

They are 20 Eleanor cobra rims with a 3 bar spinner. Not having any luck finding 295 or 305 tire size. They are taller as well and speedo would have to be recalibrated. |

Nitto tire web site wouldn't show me tire sizes. Tirerack.com shows just about evey tire made and a price. No such animal. No 295/35/20 or 305/35/20 or 295/30/20 or 305/30/20. It appears no one makes them. Running the numbers on a tire size calculator these tires appear they would be the choice, but no one makes them! DOES ANYBODY HAVE 20'S ALREADY? |

you will not have to recalibrate your speedo if you get the correct size tire. Thats the key though getting the correct size tire.
what size are your stock tires that came on the car. (all three numbers aka 245/45/17)
If you want to keep the same overall diameter in your case though... you will need a tire with a sidewall that is VERY small to you will have to get a calibration simply due to the fact that you CAN NOT get a tire that small~ at least ive never seen one (it would be like a 1.5 inch sidewall)

Tire size calculator Check this web-site out. Allows you to put in stock tire size 235/55/17. 275/35/20 shows up as a 3.8 inch tall sidewall. The wheels I'm using were made specifically for 2005 & up Mustangs with a 45MM offset.

Good news! Toyo makes a 295/30/20 tire. A Wheel dealer on ebay that had pictures of a 05 Gt with 20" rims on it the same size as mine. I asked him what size tire he uses. Toyo 245/35/20 and 295/30/20. I think I will go with 255/35/20 on the front since they make that too. Height, sidewall height are exactly the same and less than 1% difference in diameter than original rolling stock. Continental Tires makes a 305/25zr20. The companies tires come stock on Porshe 911's, so i guess they are pretty good.

Try tires.com also, that's where I got mine from and I chcecked for 305's just for grins and they had a couple there.

I'd avoid 20's on an 05. One came into the shop and he's had nothing but problems with his 20's. He got Foose rims and BFG KDWS tires and he's been back about 4 times. The tires are balanced perfect but he says it rides like crap and he's getting vibrations at highway speeds. 20's are just way too big for the stock suspension to handle in my opinion. . . They do look cool though, as long as you're not moving I guess.
