How many of you would like Ford to put T-Tops back on the Mustang in 2009? I for one would LOVE to have them do this. This is the only reason I would consider buying a TransAm or Camaro for the simple fact that I absolutely love T-Tops. It pains me that I can not purchase a Mustang with T-Tops now
So Ford, please consider a T-Top version of the Ford Mustang in 2009!

I'm kind of up in the air about this one. T-tops are nice... but they leak and make the car less structurally sound than a coupe. Therefore, to compensate for this... they are also going to end up a good bit heavier.
They are a lot like convertibles to me, fun as hell to get out and drive, but I wouldn't want to drive one every day.

And you think Ford will do it right?
I know the fox T-tops were notorious for leaking. Of course, they stopped making those nearly twenty years ago... but like I said... it's Ford. They really haven't improved much over the past twenty years.

Yeah, Ford is not too great with wheatherstripping. Look at how many layers it took to "seal" our doors around the windows.
But I think they can be done well. Especially with the aftermarket that is available now. There will be a company that comes out with a better insulation system that can replace the stock crap one, hopefully.
So overall, I give a big YES!

I really dont see them looking good, they work on the firebirds and camaros (new style) but not sure they would fit right on a newer stang... to mullet-ish.

but see, the 09 is still in concept form, lots of things can change, I mean, remember all the concepts they put out for the sn95s?

The t-tops in my Camaro started leaking. Car had about 100,000 miles on it when they started. Silicone caulking fixed 'em. Haven't had any trouble out of the ones in the TA.
I think they're about the greatest things ever. I love the open top feel, but I hate the lines on most all convertables. With the t-tops, I still get the coupe look, and the open top.

As the current owner of a T-topped Stang, I'd like to see it come back as an option.
As I mentioned in another thread, a targa top option would be sweet to see as well, and if they do actually create t-tops, it wouldn't be much more work.

I love a t-top, i almost bought a crapero for that reason. If you have sat in a 300zx, the way those are done are badass to in the inside. I love a t-top and actually found a t-top kit to do on a 99-04... but im not going to do it, to much money dont' want problems either. But yea, t-top ftw!

i said no on the vote for several resons
1. weight well increase to much( an this is what makes mustangs run quick times our weight)
2.you well be paying insurance for a convertabale when you dont have one.
3. like every one says LEAKS.
4.an from personal things i have seen as a emt on a rescue squad ....in t- tops an convertabals alike well flip an disasimple easyer in a high speed crash than a hard top..... in other words you flip you die in most cases your head well hit the crowned right after the top of the windshild does ....not pretty trust me
but dont get me wrong i love t-tops ...on the f bodys but there is a reson why ford stoped doing the t-tops not sure but there is. an i think hard tops fun a little quicker too. but like the other guy said it would be cool to see it as a option.

I voted yes. But I personnally wouldn't want one, just for all the people that would. If it meant you couldn't get a couple then I would voted no.

If the new convertible has been engineered to be light years ahead of the sn-95 and fox bodies, I don't understand why ford can't fit t-tops into the production schedule. It would give the option of open air driving without the added weight of a convertible.

I hate T Tops, I like the retro 50's and 60's themes, but theses 80's options need to stay in the 80's.. When I think of T tops I think of hill billys, I dont know why.. I think the retractable hard top option, 6 spd trans, and an IRS would be better options..

I always find it funny how T-tops and louvers are associated with the 80s when louvers were available back in the 60's and T-tops came on the Mustang IIs and Camaros/Firebirds in the 70's.
The idea of a retractable hard top is only going to make a near 4000lb car closer to 5000lbs, taking away from performance even more. While I've heard that Ford is really working with this idea, I can't see it being a big attraction.... not on a Mustang at least. Ford has to concentrate these kinds of useless dollars into making it lighter and faster.

Many think that it is due to safety concerns that convertibles are more expensive to insure. While it is true that convertibles generally do carry higher insurance premiums, it’s not for safety reasons. The conventional wisdom is that with the new safety standards, convertibles are nearly as safe as hardtops. Though they are inherently less stiff than hardtops, they are reinforced to compensate. New devices, from pillars that pop up in a rollover to side-curtain airbags

I thought it was ugly on the 80's models so why would I want it to be brought back?
I looked at the 2009 concept with T-tops and I feel that is probably one of the ugliest mustangs I have ever seen. It's way too boxy.
Also, even if T-tops are installed properly, over time they do start to leak.

not a targa top. there is no top bracing on a targa, so the chassis must be stiffened. on t-tops, you still have a center bracing that prevents the car from bending in half, so it wont be much heavier than a standard coupe, aside from whatever else extra is needed to make it work.
i dont like the S197's anyways so whatever, as long as whatever they do with them they sell.

What the difference? You still have to put more bracing in the coupes as well.... and they have a solid roof.
Basically all they would have to use is the convertible chassis, that's all.

well the targa top is basically like a convertible, there is no support between the windshield and the rear, which is why the chassis must be stiffened from underneath. a T-Top has the support member that runs down the center of the roof that connects the windshield/a-pillar frame to the rear c-pillar assembly, which still provides *almost* as much strength as a standard coupe roof. most of the structural support in a coupe is within the framing along the window and pillars.
in most modern vehicles where a convertible is an option, the structural rigidity is built in for both models right into the unibody itself during the design phase. i dont know if this is the case with the 05's.

A design patented t-top is being offered by Made in Michigan which adresses the structural and leak issues. Several articles will appear in magazines in April . They are tooled to produce 10,000 units annually. It is an option on the 2007 Flashback 69.

Not on the car in your sig. Trust me I loved mine when I use to own a T/A // Formula
But, I voted no for the Mustang to have no T-Tops

As the former owner of a '94 Z28 (that I beat a brand new mustang GT with) I am a huge fan of t-tops. I'm not sure that "bringin back" t-tops on the mustang is the correct phrase as I am only aware of a few early fox bodies that actually had t-tops. And I'm not sure how a modern mustang would actually look with them. T-TOPS ARE FOR F-BODIES FOOL!

Sure, but I'd be weary of eventual leaking.

yes please! i would love to see t-tops in the new stangs. same reason i soooo would love to have a sunroof in my '02 GT, but i don't want it to leak. i would definitely love to see that! if not t-tops, my next stang is definitely going to be a convertible.
