Should ford ditch the live axle or keep it, have it as an option, or offer an IRS as an option keeping the live axle as the base model or part of another package?
Discuss.

I'm not going to buy one either way...but I'm a live axle advocate. Like Brent said, at least make it optional.

That's a good question...the short answer is: "I don't know". I like the Charger's pretty well. That new Challenger concept is pretty spanky, too. Even though the styling is pretty bland, I'd drive a GTO, if I could pick one up cheap enough. One of the new turbo'd Solstice/Sky might be fun. That's about it for any kindof near future price range I'd be looking at.
In all honesty, though...If I pick up another car in the next two years it'll probably be either a mid-80's Honda gas-mileage-mobile, or a third generation F-Body.

I say live axle with a better IRS as an option. Reason I like LAs is the simplicity of them compared to IRS, as well as the ease of maint. and modding.

And Ford has made some of the best live axle rear-ends on the planet. I'd sure as hell trade the 10-bolt for one.

Make it an option because you've got Mustang enthusiasts of all kinds. When it comes to racing, the IRS would be HUGE with the auto-cross groups and people who would like more staility, while the 8.8 liveaxle is still a big hit with the drag racers.
The only problem with making it an option is, I can see them charging an arm and a leg for the IRS setup.

I say make it part of a "Boss" drag pack only. Put the IRS that was designed for the shelby and dumped into the new one. There is no reason an IRS can't be more of a plus than a minus. Hell, GM can do it...why can't Ford?

Yeah, they had one all set for the new shelby...then the bean counters axed it. They actually did the design, engineering, and everyhing...would have been a great addition. They did something right only to get left on the cutting room floor.

Ford needs to keep average people buying the stang. Make IRS standard with the option for Live in GT's and up. The Mustang has to show better handling or more average people will walk away from it making it more expensive for the rest of us. Not everyone that buys a Mustang is a drag racer and they shouldn't all be. If they can make it a more competent handler it may get a larger market and people that carve corners and others that do autoX might start looking at them.
Imagine out handling that little ricer punk that stupidly says' "but can it turn"?

I think Ford should put a good IRS on the 2009 mustang and make it standard, and offer a live axle as an option that could maybe lower the price of the car, but they don't need to make it where you can't order a mustang solid rearend. Also a good SLA setup up front would be nice.
