Im sick of my mustang being slow so i decided to swap it to PI. Got a real good deal on the heads/cams and valve covers from a 2002 GT. I just ordered the Ford Head Changing Kit 397-M-6067-D46 off jegs. Will i need anything else to complete the swap? I already have the PI Intake installed with proper parts.

just be prepared for broken bolts/ other issues..
get a cam holding tool.. so you can set your timing.. makes life 100x easier... heads on a 4.6 are pretty much cake.. so you should do alright! if you have any specific questions, just post 'em or send me a PM.. I'll try to help you out as best I can

Are the valves the same size? I was told everything should just swap over.

how much would i gain if i ported an polished my 98 gt heads? i want the pis but im saving so i figure it would be ok to port them anyone know?

Got the car back. PI SWAP completed. WOW. HUGE increase in power! Car pulls past 55mph now!!! It was a good thing i got it done because my camshaft was digging in the head! The head is totally ruined so i cant resell it! Dont know what caused this?! I also needed a new timing chain, intake valves, exhaust valves, timing chain tensioners, valve guides and a few more things so make sure you have the extra cash cause it killed me!

its a 98 also. It raises the compression a bit to 10:5:1 compared to a stock 9:0:1 so you MUST run premium fuel (93). You will making MORE HORSEPOWER than 99-04 mustangs STOCK because of the raised compression.

well ill be runnign alot more than the 99 04 mustang because i have a supercharger but the heads are killing me so i have a slow supercharged car

couldnt you run a thicker Head Gasket? i know it wont make up 1.5:1 difference, but itll help.

i know the dsm guys have a choice in HG thickness, because the 1g motor has lower compression than the 2g motor, and alot of 2g guys get a thicker gasket to bring their compression down, or the 1g guys will get a thinner one to bring it up.

It doesnt have to do with the gaskets its the way the pistons are.

A thicker head gasket will also slightly reduce compression though. It is simply because the extra gasket will raise the head ever so slighty, effectively making the combustion chamber larger. It definitley won't bring it down the 1.5:1 difference, but it will help a little.

i know this thread is old but i will say that if you order the PI head swap kit from Parkwayford (parkwayfordperformance.com) they have everything you need to do the swap including complete heads and intake for 1350 shipped. Im about to do this myself and i will be getting the heads P&P before installation.
