I have worked at a body shop for 2 years, and have expirince long before that. I now mostly deal with the insurance companies and dont get my hand dirty that often but I have expirience.
I can tell you that covering an entire panel in bondo is no good for cars that are driven.
Like I said though these cars never see road time, so Boyd does not care.
You should not question Jimmy when you obviously have never done body work, he is right the high build primer method is alot better for smoothing panels, after a long time in different weather and rock hits, bondo can crack esspecially when applid in such large scales.

I never said one method was better than the other or anything of the sort. I dont have the experience to do so.

well, you sure have the experience to tell if I am an expert or not based solely on the fact that I created a thread stating that I believe the Coddington's shop's way of doing it is rediculous......

wow ok first off, the fucktard comments were not directed to anyone in particular, and i took it the first round, but not no more.
you think working on your 64 and ranger mix n match hack jobs constitute body work?
ive done quite a few fiberglass boxes now and while im not the best, i know how to do bodywork. i get my hands dirty as much as possible, as id rather be able to blame a fuckup on myself rather than a shop, like the crap i am dealing with now with the painters.
like i said, if you watch more closely, they dont leave all the filler on, most of it(99% according to Charlie) is sanded off. ill finish later cause im leaving work now.

We can argue who has more experience doing what for however many years, but what it all comes down to, at the end of the day, is that I have a bigger dick than every last one of you.

lol @ the hackjob comment.
And yes, the amount of work I have done on my cars IS body work.
I used to work full time rebuilding cars during the summers, I did body work and interior work all day every day. I have also helped friends rebuild classic trucks and other vehicles. I have worked on alot of cars, not just the two I own.
Do you see any waves in the filler work? Does this look like a hackjob rebuild?

wow, would you like a cookie?
the whole point of filler is to sand it all off, if done right, nobody will ever know it was ever applied, unless they saw it done. the whole point is the end result flows.
also, about the primer. they did the body filler, sand, primer, sand, paint, etc. etc. i just watched it last night again and when they got the car out of the booth its primered.
bottom line is, coddingtons painters have a process of prep/paint that works for them and wins shows and im sure the customers are happy, and thats all that matters. wether you or anyone else thinks theres a right and wrong way to get there is beyond the point. if you think you can do it better, send your app to coddington, or run your own shop and better his.
i think this thread is as good as done. now its just a cockfight, and fast has a truck so he wins, cause we all know guys with trucks.....

When filler is applied in such a large scale, it can be very deep and still be on the majority of the whole panel, one rock chip can mess the whole panel up by causing the bondo to crack. I have seen the sheetmetal work jimy has done and has posted other pictures which leads me to believe he knows what he is doing.
Sub enclosures and making a body panel perfect are very different beasts to handle. The method Jimmy is proposing is the best way although not cost effective.
I do have expirience I work at a body shop and have body work expirience since my mid teens. High build primer and block sanding WILL net a better product thatn slathering a panel with bondo. Think of all tht high build primer as a much much studier form of bondo.

yes, I would like a cookie because my truck is such a hackjob I am embarassed to drive it and the cookie will make me feel better.
And what the hell are you talking about "cause I have a truck"? I have a truck "cause" it can haul parts, cars, wheels, all the shit I have in my apartment. I guess buying a practical DD makes me a fucktard as well
