Is the axel tube bent or the axel itself?
If it is just the axel, simply replace it and install a ford 28 spline t-lok along with 4.10 gears you will need a speed calibrator from dallas mustang to fix the sopeedometer thereafter.

If your axle shaft is bent (the part that slides into the rear end) then it will not be much of a problem to swap this part out while you are doing rear end gears. If the axle shaft is bent you would know about it as the whole car would shake pretty darn bad. You can also make sure since you have to slide the axles out a bit to install rear end gears/tlok units. They can just slide it all the way out and inspect it. If they have to replace it the replacment is just as simple. They just have to slide the new one back in.
Very little keeps your rear axles in your car, and that is rather scary.

Ok its the shaft.
Go to stang suspension.com for the gears and t-lok and ford for the axle. Or a junk yard for the axle.

Back on topic, the problem you have is a bent axle (or axle shaft). The axle housing is an actual part of the rear end. It would take a great deal of force to bend it and would cost a lot more than what you were quoted to fix. It would basically require the entire rear end to be replaced.
New gears will run you about $200 bucks (I think, I'm not sure on 7.5 gears. I know 8.8 gears can be had for ~$150). I'm not sure on cost of the T-Lok either, never priced one. As for the axle, you are probably better off hitting up the junkyards for that. You should be able to find one fairly easily. Brand new from Ford, they are riduculously expensive. The cost of the install will vary quite a bit from shop to shop, but I really wouldn't pay over $300 for it. It's going to be the same amount of work as any other gear and T-Lok swap. Don't let them try to charge you extra just because the axle is screwed.
