Headlight Socket

Ever since I traded in my original headlight bulbs for blue lights I've had one or the other burn out. They don't burn out completely though they just dim. I'm not sure why but the headlight socket (plastic) melts. It is the correct bulb for my car 9007. I've gone through 2 sockets...this be my 3rd. I'm going to do it myself this time just need to know the whole battery safety thing. Which do I disconnect + or - and what should I avoid doing? One more thing, how do I prevent this from happening again?

9007 is the correct bulb..and I've never had this problem out of my sylvanias, no idea on a way to fix it man, sorry.

I've had it fixed before by replacing the headlight socket, the female piece where the light attaches to. I bought the socket and I plan on replacing it, but I'm sure I need to disconnect the battery and don't know which terminal I should disconnect to prevent electrical shock.

Just disconnect the negative and cut on your headlights for a minute or two and that should take care of the problem. No more shocky after that.

Also make sure you don't get your fingers on the bulb when replacing the bad one. Halogen lights go bad from the oil on your fingers.

I fixed it yesterday. I took pictures I'll post later.

You probably had a short somewhere in the socket. That would cause the socket to melt under certain conditions.
