Of course it depends on the quality of the job. If you do a crappy job you can screw up the TB and your car will run like crap
A good job should allow for maybe a few ponies and a few ft/lbs of torque.. don't expect anything major liek 10rwhp or anything

you can easily get 10rwhp and 10rwtq.... if you know what youre doing.
but since this is your first time, prolly 3 from the upper and 6 from the lower. the lower is the one you want to focus on. http://www.v6stangs.com/how_to/performance/port_polish/

I figure that I'd just buy an aftermarket TB first, then maybe port the intakes somewhere down the road

If you don't at least port the crossover as large as the aftermarket tbody, then you will be wasting your money on it.

Brandon, Thanks for correcting me. I didn't think porting the intakes was that beneficial :-?

the upper isnt, but the lower is, especially on single ports. the split port upper flows really well, and the lower flows decently. but the heads are still the most important
Heads ~ 20rwhp
Lower ~ 10rwhp (if ported well)
Upper ~ 5rwhp (if fully ported)

Cool, thanx a lot guys. It's just something I've been thinking of for somewhere down the road. Could you point me to a site that would show how to do the heads?

Its not recommended that you try doing the heads yourself if you have no experince with porting intakes. heads are tricky and need to be done right. If you have some spare heads you can port than that will be the best aay to learn. As for sites I will lok for some.

I do 1 cylinder on V6 heads for DIY'ers and then they have a pattern to
follow for the rest of it. Substantial savings! It is also marked out for the
port match and everything, I can even rough in all the exhaust ports cuz
of work to the valve guide, it is lots harder than the aluminum.
The savings are around 75% or so, depending on the level of porting.
I can do the same for intakes too. Core charges apply if I supply cores.
For the 94-98 style, it is a bit more cuz I need to do an extra port
(the dogleg center port is different shape) but it is reasonable.
With a cam Monkey's esimated #'s go higher
But he's pretty close. It's possible to get 100 RWHP
total with a complete package if the porting is right.
It also needs a tune and fuel upgrades for sure.

What would you charge for porting the single cylinder on a set of heads for the 94-98? Please include the core charge. I'm thinking I'd like to have the extra set in case I messed something up ya know.
I was thinking about getting a supercharger in January (tax return) But if I can pick up significant HP with P&P Intakes and heads plus Cam for much less then I might have to go with that!
