i don't like this sound, but what is it?

Hello everybody. I have a '95 mustang gt and it recently has developed a noise when accellerating. It's a tick-tick-tick sound when you give her some fuel and it seems to go away at upper rpms. It's coming from underneath the car and I can't seem to pinpoint where it's coming from, universal maybe? I appreciate any help because this sound is driving me crazy. Thanks. |

just got back from another drive and the sound that is coming from the car now is a squeeking-tapping sound when I'm on the gas and only when I'm in gear.  It will make a God awful sound for a couple of minutes and then will go away, then come back......etc. I looked at the universal joints and they didn't seem to have any slack, but they're the non-greasable ones too.  Thanks a million to everybody that replies. |

Wouldn't an exhaust leak be heard at idle as well, not only when accelarating? |

nothing hitting/rubbing on the driveshaft?

Leaks before the cats can be heard more at Idle Leaks after the cats are louder at acceleration

I think I've finally got it pinpointed and unfortunately it's in the tranny. It's the thrust bearing on the input shaft. It started making the squeek at idle and if you ever so gently touched the clutch, it would stop. Of course when you started to move, it would do the squeek-squeek thing that drives me up the wall. Looks like I have to lay her up for a little bit until I get the parts  |

sounds like a throwout bearing... you can still drive on that and itll be ok. Its a cheap part, it just involves taking the clutch all out what not
