Transmission Question

I recently replaced the clutch in my 1998 GT Convertable. During reassmebly i noticed that the throw out bearing retainer was not attached to the transmission. I reassmbled and the clutch works (very slugish)... anyone know if that throw out bearing retainer should be permantly fixed to the transmission?

Do you mean the fork? If so it should be grabbing onto the pivot ball stud.
