My wife has an 01 Gt vert with 36,000 miles, the car is stock except for magnaflows. It has some bad knocking and pinging, I have to run prem fuel with octane booster to get it to stop. I have tried the seafoam but no change. Cleaned the maf no change, new plugs no change. What else should I try?

Where do you live. It may be gas quality. Have you tried 89 or 91. Typically it is a gas quality issue but you could have other issues. Octane booster is wothless, it only adds .25 octain increase. It could be a malfunctiong computer not adjusting the spark knock. By the way do you still have the egr connected.

I was hoping you would answer, it's me Rickey from UMC. We are just over here in Greer. I assume egr is connected, I have not messed with it. We have to run 91 or 93 just to make it smooth out. Also it is getting really bad mpg, my car with mods gets more mpg than the vert. Just dont know what to try next

What kind of gas are you running brand wise? A lot of us over here in Baton Rouge were getting a lot of pinging using shell and some of the others in town. It all went away without any changes to the car by just switching to Chevron. It sucks because they are usually about 4-5 cents more a gallon...but it is better than the detonation.

Well here lately she has been running BP gas, we have tried different brands and it does'nt run any better on any of them. It seems like the timing is off but the car has no chip in it , no tune, completely stock. Dont know what to try next???

Definately. the higher octane the better for the high mileage motors.

No. Put in what the factory tuned it for, which is 87. If the timing is somehow off, it's a different story but I somehow doubt it.

Nope, the computer will run the same amount of timing regardless of which fuel you put in, therefore it wont make a difference.

Yup, if it is dirty. A new filter will help.

Did you buy the car used? Maybe the previous owner had the computer tuned for 93.

You will have to better explain your problem, in a new thread would be best.

Says the kid with the one of one made SVT Ford Mustang Cobra GT Type R. :swordfigh
Seriously though, try running some good 93 through the car just to rule out that he did or didn't get a tune for 93. Other than that, you should run what the car was tuned for...93 in a car tuned for 87 will not help you out since the car isn't setup to change the timing...but that is a whole other debate.

Well... the front cobra is off now because I got a whole new billet grille kit which looks pretty badass. (hoodscoop grille, upper and lower bumper grilles as well) if your lucky i might take the svt off and put the GT there but the wheels centers are staying!!! haha

Thanks for all the help, we did buy it used. I know there is no chip in it but how can you tell if it was tuned with a hand held tuner? If it was how do I get the tune out and put it back to stock? Also could the fuel filter being causing alot of these problems?
