Before everybody comes in here and starts bitchin' about dealer mark-ups and how much it weighs... I gotta agree with you. The best thing is... no one has seen quite yet what they are really gonna do. They have something programmed in the computer to cut power for the first 50 start-ups. It is designed to allow for a proper break-in.
If I was making a little more money, I'd sure as hell be driving one to work every day.

Yeh if I drive one, get a good driver in one, there's gonna be some good numbers, you gotta get past all the breakins and such and they'll be running good times.

There have been drivers that have gotten low 13's out of em stock. It depends on who is behind the wheel.

on the c&d test of the convertible they said it was 5 tenths slower through the 1/4, but the engine was making an unusual ticking sound...

Bet this has little to do with engine break in and more to do with driver break in. My brother just bought a 06 'busa and the owner's manual said to keep engine below a certain RPM for "X" number of miles. Suzuki tech that knew him said it did not apply to him. Said every engine installed in bikes are run at factory. "Break-in" is to keep noobies from becoming road kill first time they twist the grip. Would imagine same concept applies here. Period of acclimation (sp?) before someone gets out and romps the gas on a 500hp toy they are not accoustomed to driving.

Or, disconnect the battery for 20-30 minutes...then it is all set.
I believe the actual deal according to the ford source that provided it was that after 5 miles of sustained speed or some number of startup cycles, the computer will open up. Until that point, the car will not go to full boost and will not go past 4k rpms. This is in place to prevent abuse in the delivery process and when the car gets to the dealerships with test drives and such. However, if someone disconnects the battery, it will reset itself and be wide open...so it isn't hard to bypass.

riversnake, break in period isnt just so people dont go WOT off the showroom floor. Its important on how long the engine lasts. My dad just bought a harley, guy told him to keep it about 60-65mph max for now then after 750miles I think take it up to around 80-85mph then let off and then drive it like you stole it. basically, you want the motor broken in before you beat the hell out of it.

I know the normal mustangs are broken in from the factory. You dont have to change the oil early or anything special they are ready to go. The blower wears in a bit as the screws move~ not sure if thats done at the factory or not.
