transmission conversion question

I am trying to gather up the parts to turn my 1970 mustang from an automatic to a 5 speed manual. Are there any tips that anyone can give me, such as where to find cheap parts. I was also wondering if my current drive shaft would fit a t-5 tranny. any information is appreciated.

im not exactly sure of the length but I doubt it, at least you will have to swap yokes to put the right one on so it will made to the tranny.

what auto is in there? a c4?

most likely will need a new exhaust hanger, the driveshaft yoke is the same. why on earth did someone put a aod into a '70?

well supposedly it was the best choice for an automatic overdrive trans but i think it is a terrible piece of equipment and i want to get rid of it. I also wonder if anyone can tell me about the flywheel, my friend has a flywheel out of a 66' motor and it is externaly ballanced. will this work on my 81' motor?

also might need a new driveshaft just thought of that. I think as long as its a 50oz imbalance you should be fine as far as the flywheel is concered. Id check around though im not to sure.

also, does anyone know where i could find the actual clutch pedal for a '70 mustang? There is a universal clutch pedal for sale a performance automotive wharehouse, would this work or how hard would it be to make it work?

I bought a manual trans pedal assembly for my 64 on eBay. They are kind of pricey - like $150 for one in good condition, but probably alot better than a universal piece.

What is so bad about an AOD?

MUSTANGS PLUS , MUSTANGS UNLIMITED and NPD , have sections of their catalogs devoted to this swap . I have a T5 in my 70 behind a 351C . i used the bellhousing that came with the trans from an 86 GT . My car had a C4 and the driveshaft was the right length but i had to swap the yoke . One word of caution using the newer style bell housing is that you have to use a 157 tooth flywheel and small starter .one good thing is that the shifter comes right up through the stock hole in the floor .
