I am goona pour all my tears to you guys, hoping you can give me the best advice towards my mustange which i do not want to get rid of. A 1999 v6 convertible mustang. I was doing really good by upgrading my car in getting more horse power by adding up 4.10 gears a bkk cold air intake a diablo chip and under pullies. This morning I heard a knocking sound coming from the block. I took it to a mechanic he told me that the metals and the bearings went bad on my block, anyway my point is i am trying to do as much as i can at a low cost, i have a baby on the way now. so i was thinking weither i should put a V8 while i am add it or just put another V6. I need to know which would be cheaper. I have never done an engine swap before so i would apprecitae any advice opinions and recommendations. if your opinion would be to do an engine swap i need to know everything i have to get. if recommend the V6 which can i get with more power.
Thanks for all your time

If you are wanting to do this easy and cheaper, just rebuild your v6. Alot less headache. Welcome to the site btw.

If you want to swap for cheap, the v6 will be the cheapest by far. The biggest savings will be being able to keep the tranny.
If you would like more power though, you could get a nice built stroker from one of the site sponsors...

I would get a second opinion on the status of your engine. Were you driving around with only a couple quarts of oil or something? Does your diablo chip require running premium octane? Does the knock only happen when accelerating?
Cheapest thing to do is figure out if you really need a whole new engine.

you can get a used v-6 pretty dang cheap, if you really decide to just replace the engine. Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market I believe has some... not to mention ebay, or personal classifieds (probably not on this site... but others). You could take the $$ you save by picking up a used engine to spend on the car, or you could just go ahead and save that money for your soon-to-be family. I've heard great things about TMA turbo kits... but yeah. I ultimately got to the point with my v-6 where I stopped modding because I just felt like "it'll always be a v-6"... and now, I decided to not mod the GT past Borla mufflers and some nice tips because it'll be "just a GT".. eventually I'll get a Cobra or something

make SURE you know what is wrong.... you can buy an entire engine for your car in good shape with low miles for DIRT cheap as well, much cheaper than a rebuild.

There is a place called mustang valley around you. I think it is around palmdale but I am not at all sure. See if you can find it on the yellow pages, they may have a replacment engine for cheap.
