paint job?

following ernesto, I have a few new dents on my '92 hatchback

if I went to have them repaired, how much would I be looking at for
1) a rather large dent in the hood
2) a nickel sized dent right above the drivers side half of the windshield (on the curve of the sheetmetal)

(not related to the wind damage..)
3) a rusty spot on the hatch.. around the keyhole and pretty bad..
4) a depression above the drivers side door handle (more like the curve was flattened than a dent..)
5) a few (FEW) small spots here and there, small dents/knicks in the paint

I'm assuming it'd be around $1500 as I probably would not need any new parts/panels.. and including spot painting...

A) How much would it be to include all that + a decent all-body paint job?

B) How much more would it cost to have the exterior panels painted True Blue instead of leaking it all black?

Any advice would be appreciated..

Honestly... probably 2.5k plus to have it done right. I really wouldn't recommend taking it to someone who is willing to do it for less.

if you want it done right, prep it yourself. i will make that mistake only once, as 90% of the final product lies within the prep, and another 5% as post-prep, and most shops deal with quantity, not quality.

okay if I knew anything about prepping a car for paint, I'd be all over that..

it depends on how good you want it to be, its all about how great of a job you want, I wouldnt expect to pay less than 2k and even that ... you simply never know whatyou will get so research is very vital... track down customers etc etc.

A stock looking paint job I would think would be 2.5-3k depending on your area. Rust repair is no joke.

It will cost you the same to paint the car blue, however if you want it done right and get the engine bay painted and doorjambs painted aswell as the hatch jamb. I would say 4k-4.5k

Oh and its always a bad idea to haggle down a price with body work.

No fucking way.
Do not do the prep work yourself, no shop will guarantee their work when you do the prep. Any decent shop knows what it takes to prep a car and if you don't go to some crap shop just to save a grand you will get a very nice paint job with you only writing a check and not having to do anywork.

the paint job IS in the prep work and unless you are extremly good at it let a pro have at it, just make sure you get it done by someone that knows their stuff.

Yep, and no shop will guarantee their paint job when you do the prep. Leave it top the pros.
