Changed my oil in this car for the first time since i've had it and there was a good amount of foam that came out. What causes the oil to foam?
does coolant cause this?

It could be due to short drives, or your PCV valve being clogged.

Check your coolant and see if you see any oil in it. Sounds like you may be needing a head gasket sometime soon...

depending on if you just got done driving it... there could be too much oil in it causing it to hit the crankshaft which causes an aeration effect... making tiny foamy air bubbles

You're probably right about the PCV because when i changed out my plugs each one had oil on them. I'm constantly checking my oil level and it's always good.
I do know that my coolant needs attention. quite a bit of debris in the reservoir but it doesn't look oily.
when I first checked my old plugs and put them back in, I noticed on the first couple of start ups I would have a good amount of whitish smoke. But my coolant level hasn't changed either. I should have the pcv replaced before my next oil change so we'll see what happens.

If you look in a manual about this problem you will see many causes.
1. Coolant
2. To much oil
3. Engine is POS
4... etc

Also if you add more than the required six quarts it can cause foaming. This is from a ford tb
