Octane booster

My car has a bad idle, so I thought I would try some octane booster, if this works, will it only fix it temporary, to where if i run out of gas, when I refill I have to always add the octane, or does it fix it permanetly??:confused

Octane booster is a waste. It is Toluene. You would need 10 bottles to go up 1 octane point. It takes a gallon to make 2+ points. You could go to a hardware store and by a gallon and save like 30 bucks at the cost of one bottle of octane booster or better yet just get mid grade gas.

ive been puttin reg before, now im putting 93, should I try mid? or it wont make a difference?

Check your MAF and IAC, clean if necessary. Just run mid grade gas unless you have a tune requiring higher octane. Octane booster is a rip off, but some also clean injectors a bit. Just my opinion.

werd, the real deal is tuolene, found at your local home depot. i used to have the formulas for what amounts to add to what levels in your tank(IE full, half, etc) per what octane rating you were already using to equal what octane you want to accomplish. that was back in my dsm days where 91oct+22psi=no timing=no powah.

but if youre having idle issues, it is not due to octane/gasoline you are using. id run some seafoam through the motor and change plugs/wires afterwards. then try things like fuel filter, maf clean, iat clean, etc.

You can get Toluene in any Hardware store, Lowes or Home Depot. It is about $10 a gallon. Toluene is what is used to increase octane. What is a joke is stuff like Octane 104 which is in only a pint of toluene which will only boost your octane 0.4 points but a gallon of Toluene will boost a 15 gallon tank of gasoline about 1.8 points. Very close to 2 full points.

Here are some Toluene ratios. These figures are based on starting with 93 octane gas in your tank. 1st col.=tank size. 2nd = expected octane 3rd= ammt. of toluene to add to tank..



15.7 ; 95 ; 1.3gal
15.7 ; 94 ; 0.6gal
15.7 ; 93.5; 0.3gal

Convert gallons to quarts
1.3 gal.=5.2 qts
0.6 gal.=2.4 qts
0.3 gal.=1.2 qts
