Doors Dont Open from Inside

So today i figured id finally go and check out why my doors arent opening from the inside. I checked out the hangers and everything and their all connected. All those plastic tabs are on and i looked at the handle itself and they seem to be fine.

Could it be the latch itself on the doors are just worn out? Im puzzled seeing as they open fine from the outside.

Im also a little peeved cause come find out that car has def been in accident. driver side door is freakin blue where the panel hides it.

Not all to pleased at the moment wit this car.

Any suggestions would be grand

could be door rotted out so was replaced with a J.Y. door, possible up in CT

as for the latch, you should be able to tell what's moving what with the door panel off

The door from the inside when pulling on the handle you can feel it grip but right where the door would actually pop open you can feel it slip. I looked at the latch and its kinda tough for me to actually see.

I looked at all the hangers and they seem fine just towards the latch area.
Hmmm i think tomorrow imma just pull the latch out then and see

you didn't pull the latch out yet? that'd be your best place to start checking... could be worn out, or the hinge could be bent/worn/ etc...

nah actually I havent

been stuck working on some other cars havent had the time for my own.


how would I know if the latch is worn? like what are the tells i can see?

with a scredriver acting as the striker you should be able to work the latch, see where/if its failing/not releasing..

even when one side of it actually works I can still determine teh latch being messed up?

I was also suggested to take the actual handle off and look at the "gears" of it.

does that make any sense?

Hmmms... Honestly I've never checked out a latch on a fox body... on the newer ones the door handles had clips on the "hangers"... and the clips liked to strip out, letting the "hangers" move

man I know the feeling heh... the rustangs been to cecil once, but that was only an hour from home (20 minutes outside of jersey haha) I don't even want to trek it all the way up here

Hey...try something easy first.

On the handle, look where it is connected. There is a little pin running through that. Push the pin down if it is sticking out the top or up if it is sticking out the bottom.

My truck does this about once a month, I just push it back down with a flat head screwdriver and all is well.

Dunno a permanent fix yet, but this should get you going again.


BTW, it doesn't take but like 1/8th an inch of that pin sticking out the top or bottom for it to not work.

I checked on a fox last night and the door handle is made the same way. This might be a much cheaper and easier fix for it.

O yeh, for the record, I put a dab of glue on mine this last time and it hasn't messed up in about 4 weeks.

Finally got around to working on my car finally. it was the gear on teh door handle put a set of new door handles and they open like a dream finally sheesh
