Lambo stang is no more.
Me and my Dad were going to do a much needed realignment on the doors as the hinges had settled over time. Well everything went hunky dory until oneof the ball studs that holds the shock in place just up and broke on us rather randomly. So we were like, "No problem, we'll just go and buy a new one".
Heh, heh....NO ONE sells the damn things. So we called the shock manufacturer and they said they dont have them either but that a company they deal with does. Ok, we order what they say are the most common sizes and we have them over nighted as I can't open and close the door without having another person hold the fender in etc blah blah. So basically I cant use the car.
Well the ball studs arrive today and Viola! Not only are they not the right sizes, they are PITIFULLY not the right sizes. They look like they were meant for a 50lb shock, not a 550lb shock!
So we had them order the correct size and had it overnighted AGAIN. But we figured that since the passenger side door was fine as far as allignment goes, that we would just take the stud off the passenger door to use on the driver door until the new one gets here. Then all we have to do is pop the new one in and pop the shock bakc on the pass door. So we pull that off and start the actual door alignment.
Well, apparently the bolts and hardware used, wer no where near rust proof. Most of the bolts we didn't have much problem with EXCEPT for the main bolt that controls one of the key adjustment mechanisms of the hinge set up.
We broke 3 tools and used half a can of PB Blaster on the bolt and it NEVER MOVED EVEN A MICROMETER. EVER. AT ALL. NONE. ZIP. ZILCH. NADA. Dad even broke out the super expensive set of allen keys on the bolt and they started, not bending now, but actually twisting with the pressure he was putting on the thing. It did not budge.
So, I said "Fuck it". Not literally of course. To be honest, I am tired of always having to give people the prpoer door opening procedure, being known as the guy with lambo doors (and nothing else apparently), the difficulty of properly closing the door MYSELF when it is out of allignment, and I dont loike that I can see the filthy inner fender well that is impossible to keep clean.
So, it is going to Ford in the morning and they are going to be putting a new set of stock hinges on.
*sigh* I will still miss them greatly though.

I know but it was cool while it lasted.
This is true.
They had a year warranty and that expired in August of this year, so yeah, and if the bolt material hasn't been changed we will be looking at this problem everytime we want to adjust the doors. Plus it's not that easy to install. You would spend about 2 days to get both doors lined up and closing properly.
*sigh* I guess I will just ahve to beat him with the doors closed now.
And yeah that's where I got the kit from, they dont deal in any parts they are just a distributor.
IDK, I don't really like suicides on anything other than trucks, Just personal preference. It would almost impossible to gullwing a Mustang door.
Yeah, that is really all they are good for. A weekend driver. If they see too much use they will not hold up and they will start shifting around and have to be realigned.
Yes, they did look nice....but they were my doors damnit! Wahahaha...
I will have to see what shpae all the crap is in when they come off. If it looks like they can be fixed and 100% operational, I might try to sell them to some of the people that come into work, but if I think they might not work properly.....I dont know, I will probably hang onto them and show them to my grandkids who dont believe I at one time had a cool car.
Ok, now I'm depressed about it again. It's like saying goodbye.

Naw they were bolt on. This dealership actually has very competent help (for a dealership). I think they may turn out alright. But if I cant get all the hardware lose and looking better than it does, I'm not going to unload them on some poor bastard.
