Neither is making an automatic sound like a manual. In fact, that's the only way. Nothing else affects the sound whatsoever other than the way the car shifts gears.
And really, the difference in sound is not that noticeable anyway...

they sound better in manual due to the way they shift gears~

Im just putting this out there, I read that in the 05-06 stangs, the manual tranny does have a more aggressive muffler on them. Actually I read it in 5.0& fast ford's mag. and it was on the sn-95's. Ill try to find the article but I know they said that the manuals do have a more agressive exhaust setup, because they said if you wanted a louder stang (with an auto) find a manual one in a junk yard and take the mufflers off. Ill get back with ya tomorrow.

huh...?
The engine, exhaust, and internal components of the motor affect the sound, not the transmission.

Thats right, the manual tranny mustangs have a more aggressive muffler on them, hence a deeper, louder, stronger sound.

makaveli -- put a catback + tune or shift kit on your 02
aftermarket mufflers = loud usually more aggressive sounding than factory ++ with the firmer shifts it will sound different than it does now on the 1-2 2-3 WOT shifts..

i never ever heard a difference between an auto and a manual--just that in a manual u can feel the shifts a little bit better, but thats about it
if u want a manual "sound" then get yourself a manual swap, or a tape recording of your favorite manual car and play it really loud with your stereo when driving

The difference is minor if any they have different part numbers but they are constructed the same. They are both lame in terms of Performance sound and are fairly restrictive on a V8. The fact of the matter is there is such little difference it would be a total waste to change stock for stock. There are so many aftermarket mufflers with better sound and flow characteristics for a pretty good bargain it seems senseless to do a stock swap. I have been around numerous Mustangs auto and manual but the difference is sound is almost nothing and flow is pathetic for either one.
