I went to a gas station today, and while standing in line to check out I notest a
Sport Compact Car magazine with a Camaro on the cover.(Very unusual. I use to be a Import car guy and have never seen a Domestic V8 powered car on the cover of that magazine) So I desided to buy it to see what it was about. It turned out to be an article about RX7's with LS1's swapped in them, and they had a Camaro SS there to compare with the RX7's.
I know swapping LS1's into RX7's isn't exactly new, but I still think it's a great idea. You take away the RX7's peaky, no torque motor, and replace it with a Awesome N/A v8, that takes very well to mods, has a much broader power band than a Rotary, and has much better reliability. As an added bonus the LS1 increases the overall weight very little, and the weight it does add actually gives it a better weight distrubution both F/R, and L/R, and I'm pretty sure that the gas mileage will improve significantly as well. All this adds up to a car that weighs a little over 2,700lbs, with an extreme well balance chassis, and Double-Wishbones on all four corners.
RX7's, and Skyline GTR's have always been my Import favorite cars, and RX7's are bad ass with their Rotary engines, but drop in a LS1, and some mods, and I think you have a Exotic car killer.
If you read the article you will notice that the Rotary powered RX7 beats the LS1 powered RX7, and Camaro in most catagories but its a racecar built by
Falken to use in competition, the other cars aren't as modified, with the Camaro being mostly stock. I wish that they would have used a Camaro with more engine/suspension mods, or either a LS1 powered Corvette.
I just had an idea, throw a LS7 in one.
