1989 5.0 starting problems

There is something simple that I am missing with all this. The engine temp started climbing the other day. it got the car home safely and replaced the water pump. i am now having difficulty starting the engine. The fuel pump is operating, the engine turns over and i have spark...? What could i be missing?

Sounds like you may have blown a head gasket and no longer have enough compression to crank it. Check your coolant for oil and vice versa (although if oil was getting in the coolant, you should have seen it while changing the water pump). Just a thought.

Can I loose compression if i wrung off the top driverside bolt of the waterpump? I have noticed a leak around that bolt. Does the hole for the bolt run that deep?

No, you won't lose any compression due to that.

you have warped the heads due to overheating.

it happens it sucks.. and its nothing some new gasgets and a mill job wont fix

The vehicle was shutdown to allow it to cool down. Coolant was added and the vehicle, though hotter than normal was driven 9 miles home. It idled and ran fine. The waterpump was determined to be the problem. It has not started since the pump weas replaced. I thought that if engine ran ok until i got it home, the heads or head gasket could be runned out.
I have been trying to figure how I could have goofed up the timing.
